Xuhui
Xuhui District is a core urban district of Shanghai. It has a land area of and a population of 982,200 as of 2008. The Xuhui District is named after its namesake, the historic area of Xujiahui. Xujiahui was historically land owned by Ming dynasty bureaucrat and scientist Xu Guangqi, and later donated to the Roman Catholic Church. It and Luwan District jointly formed the core of Catholic Shanghai, centered in the former French Concession of Shanghai. Vestiges of the French influence can still be seen in the St. Ignatius Cathedral of Shanghai, Xuhui College, the Xujiahui Observatory, and some remaining boulevards and French-style districts. Parts of today's Xuhui District were once the premier residential districts of Shanghai. The former french neighborhoods in parts of Xuhui today constitute some of the city´s most popular café areas, including places such as pedestrian Tianzifang. Shanghai Jiao Tong University
Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU; ) is a public research university in Shanghai, China. The university is funded by the Ministry of Education of China. The university was established on April 8, 1896 as Nanyang Public School (南洋公學) by an imperial edict. The university is a member of the C9 League, Double First Class University Plan, Project 985, and Project 211. The university underwent a number of reformations and gained its current name in 1959. Shanghai Second Medical University was merged into the university on July 18, 2005. Name The word "Jiao Tong" (), or historically, "Chiao Tung", means transportation or communication. Xujiahui
Xujiahui (, , romanized as: Zikawei, Ziccawei, or Siccawei) is a locality in Shanghai. It is a historic area of commerce and culture administratively within Xuhui District, which is named after the locality. The area is a well-known precinct for shopping and entertainment in Shanghai. It is served by the Xujiahui Station of the Shanghai Metro. Name Xujiahui means "Xu family junction" - more precisely, "property of Xu family at the junction of two rivers". The "Xu family" refers to the family of Xu Guangqi (Hsü Kuang-ch'i; 1562–1633), China's most notable Catholic convert. Most of what is now Xujiahui was once the ancestral home of the Xu family. Grand Gateway Shanghai
Grand Gateway Shanghai () is an office complex consisting of two identical skyscrapers in the Xujiahui area of Shanghai, China. It was completed in 2005. Design and construction Grand Gateway was designed by Callison Architecture. Construction of the towers was halted in 1997 due to the Asian financial crisis. In 2002, construction resumed. The buildings were completed in 2005 and are currently the 4th tallest twin towers in the world. Each tower is 262 m high and has 52 stories. The towers are the 71st tallest existing buildings in the world when measured up to the highest architectural point which is the top of the domes, and the 9th tallest in Shanghai, making them a landmark in the area. Luwan District (; Shanghainese: lu1uae1 chiu1, pinyin: Lúwān Qū), formerly romanized as Lokawei, was a district located in central Shanghai until its merger with Huangpu District in June 2011.
