Nicolae Xenopol
Nicolae Dimitrie Xenopol ( or , also Nicu Xenopol; Francized ''Nicolas Xenopol''; October 11, 1858 – December 1917) was a Romanian politician, diplomat, economist and writer, the younger brother of historian Alexandru Dimitrie Xenopol and, like him, a member of ''Junimea'' society. Initially inspired by ''Junimea'' leader Titu Maiorescu, he was later a dissident of ''Junimism'', a Positivist and a supporter of literary realism. Politically, Xenopol also moved away from conservatism and was embraced by the liberal current, serving as editor of two liberal newspapers: ''Românul'' and '' Voința Națională''. He had a successful career in electoral politics, which began within the National Liberal Party and later saw him joining the Conservative-Democratic Party. Adela Xenopol
Adela Xenopol (1861–1939) was a Romanian feminist and writer. She published both literary works and feminist tracts, founding several magazines. In 1914, just prior to the advent of World War I she and other feminists presented a petition for women's suffrage to the Romanian Parliament. In 1925, she founded the Society of Romanian Women Writers to encourage women to publish their works and the following year founded an influential journal as the publishing arm of the society which published works by both women and men on feminist topics. Early life Adela Xenopol was born in 1861, in Iași, the capital of the Western Moldavia region, to a family of intellectuals. Alexandru Dimitrie Xenopol
Alexandru Dimitrie Xenopol (; March 23, 1847, Iaşi – February 27, 1920, Bucharest) was a Romanian historian, philosopher, professor, economist, sociologist, and author. Among his many major accomplishments, he is the Romanian historian credited with authoring the first major synthesis of the history of the Romanian people. Life Born in Iaşi, where he graduated from high school, he went on to Vienna in 1870 to study law and then to Berlin, where he studied philosophy. In 1868, he made his debut in ''Convorbiri Literare'' with a series of studies on Romanian traditions and on Romanian institutions. At first, Xenopol served as a prosecutor in Iaşi, but he later decided to dedicate himself to the study of history. Starting in 1883, he was a professor of universal history at the University of Iaşi, where he served as rector from 1898 to 1901. He was elected member of the Romanian Academy in 1893. Margareta Xenopol (January 28, 1892 – July 8, 1979) was a Romanian composer, pianist and singer. She was born in Iași, the daughter of Alexandru Dimitrie Xenopol. She initially studied piano with Margareta Sakellary and Apasia Sion Burada, then studied with Walter Bachmann in Dresden, Germany. She studied voice with Alexandru Zirra, music theory with Paul Constantinescu, and composition with Martin Negrea in Bucharest. Romanian opera singer Elena Cernei recorded several of Xenopol's songs.
