Xırdalan
Khyrdalan () is a city, municipality, and the capital of the Absheron District of Azerbaijan. It has a population of 100,900. The city is home to the country's biggest brewery, Baltika Baku, previously known as Khyrdalan. Khyrdalan gained city status on 29 November 2006 after its approval by the National Assembly of Azerbaijan. A monument to Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak was erected in 2007 in the city. Similarly, a statue of Heydar Aliyev was erected in Cairo in 2008. In the wake of the 2011 Egyptian protests, the Azerbaijani opposition, led by the Musavat Party, demanded the demolition of the statue, calling it a "worship of idols". On 8 June 2011, the statue was taken down following Mubarak's resignation. Etymology The name "Khyrdalan" has various interpretations. Absheron District
Absheron District () is one of the 66 Administrative divisions of Azerbaijan, districts of Azerbaijan. Located in the east of the country, it belongs to the Absheron-Khizi Economic Region. The district borders the districts of Khizi District, Khizi, Gobustan District, Gobustan, Baku, Hajigabul District, Hajigabul, Salyan District (Azerbaijan), Salyan, and the city of Sumgait. Jeyranbatan Reservoir
Jeyranbatan reservoir () is a reservoir in the Absheron Rayon in eastern part of Azerbaijan. It is located between Baku and Sumgayit cities, next to Ceyranbatan settlement 20 km from Baku. In Azerbaijani language, Jeyranbatan means "the place where the gazelle has drowned" which refers to an ancient legend related to the naming of the city of Sumgayit. The Absheron Peninsula () is a peninsula in Azerbaijan. It is the location of Baku, the most populous city of the country, and the Baku Metropolitan Area, with its satellite cities Sumqayit and Khyrdalan. It extends eastward into the Caspian Sea, and reaches a maximum width of .
