The Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Azerbaijan () or MN is an Azerbaijani government agency that is associated with the Azerbaijani military. The ministry is responsible for keeping Azerbaijan defended against external threats, preserving its territorial integrity, waging war on behalf of Azerbaijan (for example, Azerbaijan’s contribution to the War on Terror), and the surveillance of the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea sea and airspace. The Minister of Defense is appointed and removed from the post by the Commander-in-chief of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, the President of Azerbaijan. Zakir Asker oghlu Hasanov (; born 6 June 1959) is an Azerbaijani politician and colonel general who has been the Minister of Defence of Azerbaijan since 2013. Early life and education He was born on 6 June 1959 in the Astara District. He graduated from the Baku High Army Commanders School in 1980 as an artillery officer before serving for five years in the Soviet Armed Forces Units in East Germany. Afterwards, he spent the next eight years at the Altay military registration and enlistment office of the Siberian Military District as part of the Ministry of Defence of the USSR. Azerbaijan Higher Military Academy
The Azerbaijan Higher Military Academy named after Heydar Aliyev (, russian: Азербайджанское высшее военное училище имени Гейдара Алиева) is an educational institution of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces. In order to be admitted into the academy, candidates have to be between the ages of 17 and 19 and have completed secondary school education. Background The predecessor institution to the current academy was the Baku Higher Combined Arms Command School (BVOKU), which was founded on 29 November 1939 as one of many military academies of the Soviet Army. By 1951, the developing school was ranked 6th place among the best infantry schools in the USSR. The school was disbanded in 1991 as a result of the fall of the Soviet Union. Training And Education Center Of The Armed Forces
The Training and Education Center of the Armed Forces (TEC) () is a training establishment of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces. It was established in accordance with the protocol which was signed between Azerbaijan and the Turkish Armed Forces on 5 April 2000 and decree of Azerbaijani Minister of Defense Safar Abiyev on 20 February. The TEC was opened on 26 March 2001 on the basis of advanced officers and reserve officers courses in order to facilitate the application of NATO standards in Azerbaijan Armed Forces. The TEC implements the preparation of military personnel for branches of the Armed Forces.
