Xiong Guobao
Xiong Guobao (born 1 November 1962) is a former elite level badminton player from China who won numerous international singles titles in the late 1980s. Career Noted for his solid, consistent play, Xiong rarely suffered lopsided defeats. His titles included the United States (1984), Japan (1987), Hong Kong (1987), Malaysian (1988, 1989), Thailand (1988), French (1989), Swedish (1988), and Indonesian (1989) Opens. He also won the (now defunct) season ending World Badminton Grand Prix tourney in 1987 and in 1989. Along with fellow singles stars Yang Yang and Zhao Jianhua, Xiong helped China's Thomas Cup (men's international) teams capture consecutive world titles in 1986, 1988, and 1990. The Marlboro Asian Badminton Championships 1987 took place in the month of December in Semarang, Indonesia. Only men's team competition were conducted. Zhao Jianhua
Zhao Jianhua () (born 21 April 1965) is a Chinese former badminton player who competed internationally from the mid-1980s to the early 1990s. He was admired for his speed and power as well as for his deception and technique. Career Zhao won the 1991 IBF World Championships in singles, beating Alan Budikusuma in the final. He also won a bronze medal at the 1987 IBF World Championships. He is a two-time winner of the prestigious All England singles title (1985, 1990), and won the quadrennial Asian Games title on both occasions (1986, 1990) that he contested it, defeating his fellow countryman Yang Yang in the final on each occasion. Yang Yang (badminton)
Yang Yang (; born December 8, 1963 in Nanjing, Jiangsu) is a former Chinese badminton player. He is one of the four badminton players in the world to have won two World Badminton Championships men's singles titles consecutively (1987, 1989), the others being Lin Dan, Chen Long, Kento Momota and Viktor Axelsen. He also won the men's singles gold medal when badminton was a demonstration sport at the 1988 Summer Olympics. He possessed great agility, quick footwork, accurate power, and coolness under pressure, and is widely regarded as one of the finest singles players in the history of the sport.
