Thailand Open (badminton)
The Thailand Open in badminton is an open international championships held in Thailand since 1984. It was halted in 1986, 1998, 2002, 2010, 2014, and 2021. BWF categorised Thailand Open as one of the seven BWF World Tour Super 500 events in the BWF events structure since 2018. Chung Myung-hee
Chung Myung-hee (Hangul: 정명희; born 27 January 1964) is a former female badminton player from South Korea. Chung was a nine-time All England Open champion (four-time in women's doubles and five-time in mixed doubles), and won the gold medals at the 1989 and 1991 IBF World Championships in mixed doubles, with Park Joo-bong. Wu Jianqiu
Wu Jianqiu (, born 1962) is a retired female badminton player from China. Career Wu was one of China's leading combination women's singles and doubles players in the first several years after her country joined the International Badminton Federation (now Badminton World Federation). She won the Danish Open women's singles in 1982 (the first of the two Danish Opens that were played that year). In 1983 she won the prestigious All-England Open women's doubles title with Xu Rong and was runner-up in the singles to fellow countrywoman Zhang Ailing. She also earned a bronze medal in women's doubles with Xu Rong at the 1983 IBF World Championships. In 1985 she won the Japan Open and a silver medal at the IBF World Championships (defeating the great Li Lingwei in the semifinals) in women's singles. Karen Beckman (Bridge) (1960 – June 2020) was a female badminton player of England. Career She won a bronze medals at the 1980 IBF World Championships in women's doubles with Barbara Sutton. Christian Hadinata
Christian Hadinata (, born 11 December 1949) is a former Chinese Indonesian badminton player. Profile Though early in his career he was a fine singles player who reached the final of the prestigious All-England Championship in 1973, Christian's success in doubles earned him recognition as one of the great doubles players in badminton history. He won two gold medals at the 1980 IBF World Championships in Jakarta, in men's doubles with Ade Chandra, and in mixed doubles with Imelda Wiguna. He played for Indonesia for 15 years, beginning his career in 1971 at the Asian championships in Indonesia and managed to become a mixed doubles champion with Retno Koestijah. Christian's Thomas Cup (Men's International Team Championship) record is particularly notable. Hadibowo Susanto (4 July 1958 – 7 June 2011) was a badminton player from Indonesia. Icuk Sugiarto (born 4 October 1962) is an Indonesian former badminton player. Career Largely a speed and power player, Sugiarto won the gold medal at the 1983 IBF World Championships, upsetting fellow countryman Liem Swie King in the final, and the bronze medal at the 1987 and 1989 IBF World Championships. He captured singles titles at the Indonesia (1982, 1986, 1988), Malaysia (1984), Thailand (1984, 1985), French (1988), and Hong Kong (1988) Opens; at the Badminton World Cup (1985, 1986); and at the Southeast Asian Games (three consecutive times) in 1985, 1987, and 1989. The 2018 Thailand Open (officially known as the Toyota Thailand Open 2018 for sponsorship reasons) was a badminton tournament which took place at Nimibutr Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, from 10 to 15 July 2018 and had a total purse of $350,000. Tournament The 2018 Thailand Open was the thirteenth tournament of the 2018 BWF World Tour and also part of the Thailand Open championships, which had been held since 1984. This tournament was organized by the Badminton Association of Thailand with the sanction from BWF. Venue This international tournament was held at Nimibutr Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand. BWF World Tour
The BWF World Tour is a Grade 2 badminton tournament series, sanctioned by Badminton World Federation (BWF). It is a competition open to the top world ranked players in singles (men's and women's) and doubles (men's, women's and mixed). The competition was announced on 19 March 2017 and came into effect starting from 2018, replacing the BWF Super Series, which was held from 2007 to 2017. The BWF World Tour are divided into six levels, namely World Tour Finals, Super 1000, Super 750, Super 500, and Super 300 in order (part of the HSBC World Tour). One other category of tournament, the BWF Tour Super 100 level, also offers ranking points. Badminton World Federation
The Badminton World Federation (BWF) is the international governing body for the sport of badminton recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). It was founded in 1934 as the International Badminton Federation (IBF) with nine member nations (Canada, Denmark, England, France, Ireland, Netherlands, New Zealand, Scotland and Wales). In 1981 the IBF merged with the World Badminton Federation, and on 24 September 2006, at the Extraordinary General Meeting in Madrid, the name of the organization was changed to Badminton World Federation (BWF).
