Xing (cultural Organization)
Xing is a cultural organization based in Bologna, Italy, dedicated to the production and support of experimental practices within the arts. Xing was founded in 2000 by Daniele Gasparinetti, Silvia Fanti, Andrea Lissoni, Giovanna Amadasi and Federica Rossi. Their research focuses in particular on the field of live arts, performing arts and electronic arts. Activities From 2000 to 2011, Xing organized in Bologna the festivals Netmage - International Live Media Festival, dedicated to electronic art and live media, and F.I.S.Co., F.I.S.Co Festival Internazionale sullo Spettacolo Contemporaneo, dedicated to performing arts. Since 2012, the two festivals merged in the project Live Arts Week, an annual event dedicated to live arts, taking place in different locations in the city for ten editions (2012-2021). Netmage
Netmage is an international festival dedicated to electronic art curated by Xing and produced annually—in the city of Bologna—as a multidisciplinary program of works, investigating and promoting contemporary audiovisual research. The festival was born in 2000 with funds provided by the European Union, when Bologna represented one of the nine major European capital of culture. The festival concentrates on an amalgam of Happenings, environments, and audio/visual installations, it does through a concentration on creative scenes and subcultural communities. The experience of Netmage (eleven editions from 2001 to 2011) was merged into the annual Live Arts Week. Mission The mission of Netmage is to investigate the relationship between the "liveness" and the "ambient space". Electronic Art
Electronic art is a form of art that makes use of electronic media. More broadly, it refers to technology and/or electronic media. It is related to information art, new media art, video art, digital art, interactive art, internet art, and electronic music. It is considered an outgrowth of conceptual art and systems art. Background The term ''electronic art'' is almost synonymous to computer art and digital art. The latter two terms, and especially the term computer-generated art are mostly used for visual artworks generated by computers. However, electronic art has a much broader connotation, referring to artworks that include any type of electronic component, such as works in music, dance, architecture and performance. Live Arts Week
Live Arts Week is a project by Xing, born in 2012 out the fusion of the experiences of the two Bologna festivals (2000>2011): Netmage - International Live Media Festival and F.I.S.Co. - Festival Internazionale sullo Spettacolo Contemporaneo. Live Arts Week takes place in Bologna, Italy, once a year, and it is developed throughout one week in different locations and settings in town. Mission Event dedicated to live arts, it hosts a blend of artworks and productions that revolve around the presence, performance and perceptual experience of sounds and visions, with a program of live works (performances, environments, concerts, live media, expanded cinema) presented by important personalities in the international and contemporary research scene. Contemporary Art Organizations
Contemporary history, in English-language historiography, is a subset of modern history that describes the historical period from approximately 1945 to the present. Contemporary history is either a subset of the late modern period, or it is one of the three major subsets of modern history, alongside the early modern period and the late modern period. New Media Art
New media art includes artworks designed and produced by means of new media, electronic media technology, technologies, comprising virtual art, computer graphics, computer animation, digital art, interactive art, sound art, Internet art, video games, robotics, 3D printing, and cyborg art. The term defines itself by the thereby created artwork, which differentiates itself from that deriving from conventional visual arts (i.e. architecture, painting, sculpture, etc.). Performance Art
Performance art is an artwork or art exhibition created through actions executed by the artist or other participants. It may be witnessed live or through documentation, spontaneously developed or written, and is traditionally presented to a public in a fine art context in an interdisciplinary mode.
