Xakriabá
The Xakriabá () are an indigenous people of Brazil. One of the Gê peoples who spoke the Xakriabá dialect of the Akwe language, they used to live in the Tocantins River area. As of 2010, 9,196 Xakriabá people lived in the state of Minas Gerais. Name The Xakriabá are also known as the ''Xacriabá'', ''Chakriaba'', ''Chikriaba'', or ''Shacriaba'' people. They were formerly known as ''"acroás"'' and ''"coroás"'' in Bahia and ''"gamelas"'' in Piauí. Language The Xakriabá speak Portuguese. The extinct Xakriabá language was an Acua language, belonging to the Ge language family and was one of the Macro-Ge languages. Célia Xakriabá
Célia Nunes Correa (born 9 May 1990), better known as Célia Xakriabá , is an indigenous educator and activist of the Xakriabá people of Brazil. She is best known for holding debates and lectures at universities in Brazil promoting, among other things, advancement of the status and rights of indigenous women, indigenous land rights, and indigenous education. Early life Xakriabá was born in the municipality of São João das Missões in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais. She attended school at the Xukurnuk Indigenous State School. Later, she both attended and taught indigenous education at the Federal University of Minas Gerais in 2013. Attending from 2016, Xakriabá earned her master's degree in education from the University of Brasília in 2018. She is the first member of her tribe to receive a graduate degree. Xakriabá Language
Xakriabá (also called Chakriaba, Chikriaba, Shacriaba or Shicriabá) is an extinct or dormant Akuwẽ (Central Jê) language ( Jê, Macro-Jê) formerly spoken in Minas Gerais, Brazil by the Xakriabá people, who today speak Portuguese. The language is known through two short wordlists collected by Augustin Saint-Hilaire and Wilhelm Ludwig von Eschwege. The last confirmed native speaker of the language died in 1864.
