The Apoena is a Brazilian Low Altitude Long Endurance (LALE) unmanned aerial vehicle designed and built by XMobots for several kinds of sensing roles. XMobots
XMobots is a Brazilian company that develops and operates Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS). The company was the first to obtain permission of the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) to perform experimental flights with RPASs in the country. History XMobots was created in 2007 with the purpose of developing RPAS, also called Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), with national technology. The company was born incubated in the Center for Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Technology of The São Paulo University (CIETEC-USP) from a R&D project of its founders. At that time, they were master's degree students at the Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo (POLI-USP). During its first three years, XMobots created the RPAS Apoena 1000B, a 32 kilos aircraft known as the first UAV to fly over the Amazon. Two-stroke Engine
A two-stroke (or two-stroke cycle) engine is a type of internal combustion engine that completes a power cycle with two strokes (up and down movements) of the piston during one power cycle, this power cycle being completed in one revolution of the crankshaft. A four-stroke engine requires four strokes of the piston to complete a power cycle during two crankshaft revolutions. Tractor Propeller
In aviation, the term tractor configuration refers to an aircraft constructed in the standard configuration with its engine mounted with the propeller in front of it so that the aircraft is "pulled" through the air. Oppositely, the pusher configuration places the airscrew behind and propels the aircraft forward. Through common usage, the word "propeller" has come to mean any airscrew, whether it actually propels or pulls the plane. In the early years of powered aviation both tractor and pusher designs were common. However, by the midpoint of the First World War, interest in pushers declined and the tractor configuration dominated. A flap is a high-lift device used to reduce the stalling speed of an aircraft wing at a given weight. Flaps are usually mounted on the wing trailing edges of a fixed-wing aircraft. Flaps are used to reduce the take-off distance and the landing distance. Flaps also cause an increase in drag so they are retracted when not needed. The flaps installed on most aircraft are partial-span flaps; spanwise from near the wing root to the inboard end of the ailerons.
