XL Recordings Chapters
''XL Recordings Chapters'' was a musical compilation series which showcased tracks from the XL Recordings record label. Also, other notable breakbeat hardcore, house and techno tracks, XL's output at the time, were featured from other labels. XL released these compilations between 1990 and 1995. The label released, "Chapter VI" in November 2015 showcasing the latest crop of artists with XL Recordings. XL Recordings
XL Recordings is a British independent record label founded in 1989 by Tim Palmer and Nick Halkes. It has been ran and co-owned by Richard Russell since 1996. It forms part of the Beggars Group. Although only releasing an average of six albums a year, XL has worked with Adele, Arca, Azealia Banks, Basement Jaxx, Beck, Dizzee Rascal, Electric Six, FKA Twigs, Giggs, Gil Scott-Heron, Gotan Project, The Horrors, Yaeji, Jai Paul, Jungle, King Krule, Lemon Jelly, M.I.A., Nines, Peaches, The Prodigy, Radiohead, Sampha, SBTRKT, Sigur Rós, Tyler, the Creator, Vampire Weekend, The White Stripes, and The xx. Greater Than One
Greater Than One is an English electronic music band, founded by husband and wife Michael Wells and Lee Newman in 1985. They released many albums under this name, and also under the names Tricky Disco, GTO, John + Julie, Church of Extacy, Signs of Chaos, T.D.5, Salami Brothers, Killout Squad, Technohead and L.E.D.. Only a few of their singles were commercially successful. Kwadwo Quentin Kankam (born 20 January 1997), better known by his stage name Novelist, is a British grime MC and record producer from Lewisham in South London. He was a founding member of the Square crew and was nominated for Best Grime Act at the 2014 MOBO Awards. He has been called the "new face of grime" and was described as "the poster child for the first generation of real grime kids" by DJ Logan Sama. Fire/Jericho
"Fire" and "Jericho" are two songs recorded by English electronica/rave act the Prodigy (both were later released under the name "Fire/Jericho", the band's third single on 14 September 1992). It peaked at number eleven on the UK Singles Chart. The single was sub-titled "Strangely Limited Edition" due to the 12-inch vinyl record being deleted after two weeks. This was to move the focus over to the release of the debut album, ''Experience'', following a few weeks later. Even when the single was re-released, the subtitle was still standing. "Fire" "Fire" uses the sample "I am the god of Hell fire, and I bring you (fire)" from The Crazy World of Arthur Brown's 1968 single of the same name. The "fire" vocal sample following "...I bring you" is taken from Daddy Freddy's "Live Jam". Kris Needs
Kris Needs (born 3 July 1954) is a British journalist and author, known for writings on music from the 1970s onwards. He became editor of proto-punk and early punk rock ''ZigZag'' magazine in August 1977 at 23 and has since written biographies of musicians and rock stars, including Primal Scream, Joe Strummer and Keith Richards. Early life In 1972, Needs became the secretary of the Mott The Hoople fan club, the Sea Divers, which he ran from his home in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire. His contact details at the time appear on the sleeve of the band's sixth studio album, ''Mott''. Way Out West are an English electronic music duo comprising Jody Wisternoff and Nick Warren. Paul Newman (born 5 May 1971), also known as Tall Paul or Camisra, is an English DJ, producer and remixer who is best known for the songs "Rock da House" and "Let Me Show You". Tall Paul Tall Paul began his DJing career in 1985 at Turnmills, a nightclub his father owned. From there, Tall Paul became the resident DJ at the Gardening nightclub, London, before headlining at various events in countries including the US, Brazil and Ibiza. "One Love" is a song by British electronic music act the Prodigy, released on 4 October 1993 by XL Recordings as the first single from the act's second album, ''Music for the Jilted Generation'' (1994). The song peaked at number eight on the UK Singles Chart and number five on the UK Dance Singles Chart. It was also a top 30 hit in Sweden and Switzerland. Inspiration Liam Howlett first released the songs "One Love" and "One Love" (Jonny L Remix) as two 12-inch white labels, called "Earthbound 1" and "Earthbound 2". The version that appeared on the Prodigy's second studio album Music for the Jilted Generation was the shorter edit version due to the band having to trim some running time off the album to allow it to fit on the master CD. "Everybody in the Place" is the second official single released by the British electronic dance band the Prodigy from their debut album, ''Experience'' (1992). It was released on 23 December 1991 through XL Recordings in the UK. The single features the "Fairground Remix" version of the song. The version on the album is the ''"''155 & Rising Version''"'', which is significantly longer and faster in beats per minute than the original mix featured on the '' What Evil Lurks'' EP. The single peaked at number two on the UK Singles Chart, beaten to number one by the re-release of Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" following the death of Freddie Mercury. The original CD single was released with five tracks, which went against British chart regulations. "On a Ragga Tip" is a song by British breakbeat hardcore group SL2, released as a single in 1992. The song contains samples of Jah Screechy's "Walk and Skank" and Kid 'n Play's "Gittin' Funky (UK Remix)". The song was a success, peaking at 2 in the United Kingdom and the Netherlands, No. 3 in Ireland and No. 42 in Belgium. It remains the group's biggest and best-known song. In 1997, a remix of the song was released and reached No. 31 in the UK. In 2015, the original SL2 version was used in a McDonald's television commercial in the UK and in 2019, it was used in a Virgin Media commercial. "Charly" is the debut single released by the British electronic act the Prodigy, later included on their debut album, ''Experience'' (1992), although the version featured on the album is the significantly different "Trip into Drum & Bass" remix. It was released in the UK on 12 August 1991 through XL Recordings on vinyl, CD and cassette tape format. Almost a year later, it was released as a double A-side single with "Everybody in the Place" in the United States on 18 June 1992 through Elektra Records on CD, digipak and maxi-single format. On 22 November 2004 the single was released on digital download format. On 1 October 1992, "Charly" had sold over 200,000 copies in the UK which in turn enabled it a Silver BPI certification.
