The Bouncer (song)
"The Bouncer" is a song by British electronic dance music duo Kicks Like a Mule. It was released as a single in 1992, and was a success, peaking at No. 7 on the UK Singles Chart. It features vocal samples of an archetypal club bouncer saying "Your name's not down, you're not coming in", "Not tonight, you're not on the list" and "Listen mate, I told you once, I told you twice, you're not on the list, alright?". A keyboard riff sample is taken from the 1990 song "Moribund" by Frank De Wulf. In 2006, English indie rock band Klaxons covered "The Bouncer" for their '' Xan Valleys EP''. Kicks Like a Mule returned the favour the following year by covering Klaxon's "Gravity's Rainbow". Kicks Like A Mule
Kicks Like a Mule is a British electronic music duo consisting of Richard Russell and Nick Halkes. Their first single, " The Bouncer", peaked at No. 7 in the UK Singles Chart when it was released in 1992. Although both Halkes and Russell worked at the XL Recordings label at the time of the single's release (XL being run by Russell to this day), it was released on Rebel MC’s independent Tribal Bass label. It featured a repeated vocal sample of an archetypal club bouncer saying "Your name's not down, you're not coming in" and "Not tonight, you're not on the list." Kicks Like a Mule were also responsible for the remix of Awesome 3's "Don’t Go", and produced the song "Pass the Rizla" by London Posse which was featured on the ''London Underground'' EP on XL Records in 1993. Breakbeat hardcore (also referred to as hardcore rave or oldskool hardcore) is a music genre of the very early 1990s that spawned from the UK rave scene. It combines four-on-the-floor rhythms with breakbeats usually sampled from hip hop. In addition to the inclusion of breakbeats, the genre also features shuffled drum machine patterns, hoover, and other noises originating from new beat, sounds from acid house and bleep techno, and often upbeat house piano riffs and vocals. Nick Halkes (born Nigel Halkes) is a UK based music industry executive best known for signing a breaking dance act the Prodigy and being one of the founders of the XL Recordings label. He is now an artist manager and music publisher managing Liam Howlett ( the Prodigy), Bad Company UK and more. Halkes previously managed Grammy nominated Engine-EarZ Experiment, DJ Fresh and Stanton Warriors. Over recent years as a manager Halkes has also worked with DJ René LaVice. Richard Russell (born March 18, 1971) is an English record producer and the owner of British record label XL Recordings. Career XL Recordings was founded in 1989 by Tim Palmer and Nick Halkes to release dance music. Richard Russell joined XL as an A & R scout in 1991. In 1992, Russell released a single titled " The Bouncer" as part of a duo named Kicks Like a Mule. ''The Guardian'' described the song as rave music that was "knocked into shape in about five hours" which "crossed over from pirate radio to reach number seven in the charts." Klaxons were an English rock band, based in London. Following the release of several 7-inch singles on different independent record labels, as well as the success of previous singles " Magick" and " Golden Skans", the band released their debut album, '' Myths of the Near Future'' on 29 January 2007. ''Xan Valleys'' is the first extended play (EP) released by British indie rock band Klaxons. Released on 16 October 2006, the album was released by Modular Recordings, the band's final release before signing with major label Polydor Records. Three of the tracks, "4 Horsemen of 2012", "Gravity's Rainbow" and " Atlantis to Interzone" would appear as re-recorded versions on the band's debut album, '' Myths of the Near Future''. Gravity's Rainbow (song)
"Gravity's Rainbow" is a song by British band Klaxons, from their debut album '' Myths of the Near Future''. It is named after Thomas Pynchon's novel. The song was first released on Angular Records as a double A-side with " The Bouncer" in March 2006 and was limited to 500 copies on 7" vinyl only. In September 2006, it was released on 12" vinyl with three remixes of the track. It reached a peak position of number 35 on the UK Singles Chart. A re-recorded version of the track was re-released in 2007, with a remix from Soulwax, a new Erol Alkan-produced track "Electrickery" and a live version of the track. For the re-release of "Gravity's Rainbow", the band reshot the music video. There are two videos for this track, the original was shot in a basement using props belonging to the band members and took in total 72 hours to complete. Zomby is a British electronic musician who began releasing music in 2007. He has released music on several labels, including Hyperdub, Werk Discs, and 4AD. Zomby's influences include oldschool jungle music and Wiley's eskibeat sound. Career Zomby's first major release was the ''Zomby EP'' in 2008 on the Hyperdub label.
