The XIV Constitutional Government of Portugal (Portuguese language, Portuguese: ''XIV Governo Constitucional de Portugal'') was the 14th government of the Third Portuguese Republic, under the Constitution of Portugal#Constitution of 1976, Portuguese Constitution of 1976. The government was in office from 25 October 1999 to 6 April 2002 and was formed by members of the Socialist Party (Portugal), Socialist Party (PS), the party with the most votes and elected members for the Assembly of the Republic (Portugal), Assembly of the Republic following the 1999 Portuguese legislative election, 1999 legislative election. António Guterres, leader of the PS, served as Prime Minister. Composition The government was initially composed of the Prime Minister and 21 ministries comprising ministers, secretaries and under-secretaries of state.
