XED-AM
XED-AM (1050 Hertz, kHz) is a commercial radio, commercial AM radio, AM radio station in Mexicali, Baja California, also heard in the Yuma, Arizona and El Centro, California media market, radio markets. It is owned by Radiorama and simulcasts its XHMUG-FM 96.9 "La Poderosa". Prior to being a simulcast of XHMUG, it was known as "La Gran D" or "The Big D". Because AM 1050 is a clear channel station, clear channel frequency reserved for XEG-AM, XEG in Monterrey, Nuevo León, XED must greatly reduce power at night to avoid interference; it was a daytime-only radio station for nearly seven decades. XHMUG-FM
XHMUG-FM is a radio station on 96.9 FM in Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico. The station is owned by Grupo Radiorama and carries its La Poderosa Spanish-language adult hits format. History XHMUG received its first concession on March 30, 1994. It was located in Murguia, Baja California, Murguia, slated to broadcast on 94.1 MHz and owned by Hector Renato Brassea Eguia. It did not take the station long to move to Mexicali and 96.9 MHz. In 2016, Grupo Radio México ceased to operate the station, and XHMUG changed to Radiorama and La Poderosa. The next year, one of Radiorama's two Mexicali clusters was transferred to Grupo Larsa Comunicaciones, resulting in Larsa flipping XHMUG to its Toño format. Radiorama took back operation of the station in September 2018, resulting in the return of the La Poderosa name, but the format changed to classic hits in English and Spanish. KTCT (1050 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station licensed to San Mateo, California, and serving the San Francisco Bay Area. It is owned by Cumulus Media and airs a sports radio format as KNBR 1050, a sister station to KNBR and KNBR-FM. In contrast to KNBR-AM-FM having local sports talk and play-by-play most of the day, KTCT emphasizes nationally syndicated programming from ESPN Radio and Westwood One Sports. KTCT is also the radio home for San Jose Earthquakes soccer, Stanford University football, and University of San Francisco men's basketball. Border Blaster
A border blaster is a broadcast station that, though not licensed as an external service, is, in practice, used to target another country. The term "border blaster" is of North American origin, and usually associated with Mexican AM stations whose broadcast areas cover large parts of the United States, and United States border AM stations covering large parts of Canada. Conceptually similar European broadcasting included some pre-World War II broadcasting towards the United Kingdom, " radio périphérique" around France and the U.S. government-funded station Radio Free Europe, targeting eastern Europe.
