Wycliffe Wangamati
Wycliffe Wafula Wangamati is a Kenyan national and politician who served as the 2nd Governor of Bungoma on a Ford Kenya ticket. Wangamati came to power after defeating Kenneth Lusaka in the 2017 election. In August 9th, 2022 election, he was again defeated by Kenneth Lusaka who was then the Speaker of the Senate. Wangamati only ruled Bungoma County for One term. Biography Wangamati was born and raised in Kanduyi. His father, Patrick Wangamati, was a Ford Kenya nominated MP and served as Mayor of Webuye in the 1980s. He attended Kanduyi DEB, St Mary`s Kibabii and Musingu High Schools. He later pursued his bachelors degree at Moi University. Prior to joining politics, Wangamati was the Executive Director for Alexander Forbes East Africa. Bungoma County
Bungoma County is a county in the former Western Province of Kenya. Its capital is Bungoma town. It has a population of 1,670,570 of which 812,146 are males 858,389 females as per the 2019 census and an area of 2,069 km2. It has nine constituencies, namely: Bumula, Kabuchai, Kanduyi, Kimilili, Mt. Elgon, Sirisia, Tongaren, Webuye East and Webuye West. The economy of Bungoma County is mainly agricultural, centering on the sugarcane and maize industries. Kenneth Makelo Lusaka (born 18 September 1963) is the 2nd and current governor of Bungoma County. Previously, he served as the speaker of Senate 017 -2022and was the 1st Governor of Bungoma County in Kemya, a term he served between 2013 - 2017 where he was defeated by Wycliffe Wafula Wangamati in the 2017 General Elections. Webuye
Webuye, previously named Broderick Falls, is an industrial town in Bungoma County, Kenya. Located on the main road to Uganda, the town is home to the Pan African Paper Mills, the largest paper factory in the region, as well as a number of heavy-chemical and sugar manufacturers. The area is heavily populated and is used mainly for subsistence agriculture. The area around Webuye is home to the Bukusu and Tachoni tribes. The town has an urban population of 19,600 (1999 census) and 22,507 in total according to the GeoNames geographical database. Villages near Webuye include Lugulu, Milo, Maraka and Misikhu. Webuye is home to the Broderick Falls of Nzoia River. 2017 Kenyan General Election
General elections were held in Kenya on 8 August 2017 to elect the President, members of the National Assembly and Senate. They coincided with the 2017 Kenyan local elections which elected Governors and representatives in the devolved governments. The published results showed that incumbent President Uhuru Kenyatta of the Jubilee Party had been re-elected with 54% of the vote. However, his main opponent, Raila Odinga of the Orange Democratic Movement, refused to accept the results and contested them in the Supreme Court. The results of the presidential election were subsequently annulled by the court and fresh presidential elections was ordered to be held within 60 days.
