Woodside High School (Virginia)
Woodside High School is one of five high schools in Newport News, Virginia. The school was ranked 987th in 2008 by Newsweek magazine's "America's Best High Schools" in terms of high schools and exam testing. The Virginia Department of Education has accredited Woodside since the 2003–04 school year. The school has a twin school, Heritage High School (Newport News, Virginia), Heritage High School, that was built simultaneously and designed by the same architects. Woodside High School is a Fully Accredited High School, and it met the Adequate Yearly Progress marks for the No Child Left Behind Act established by the Federal Government. Newport News Public Schools (NNPS) is a division of Newport News, Virginia that operates the city's system of public schools. , NNPS had an enrollment of 28,669. The division employs about 4,700 people, including approximately 2,630 teachers and teacher assistants. Heritage High School (Newport News, Virginia)
Heritage High School, established in 1996, is a public school in Newport News, Virginia. The school is home to the Heritage Hurricanes, and its colors are maroon and silver. The school is also home to the Newport News Public Schools Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) magnet program, as well as the University magnet program. The school is located in the South East End area of the city (Downtown) at 5800 Marshall Avenue. The current principal is Earling Hunter. The school has a twin school, Woodside High School, that was built simultaneously and designed by the same architects. 2021 shooting On September 20, 2021, a shooting occurred at the school, injuring two people. The shooter, 15-year-old Jacari Taylor, was arrested and has since pleaded guilty to malicious wounding and four gun charges. Micah Davis (born June 8, 1993), known professionally as Masego (), is a Jamaican-American musician and singer known for incorporating the saxophone into his music. Masego released two EPs in 2016, ''The Pink Polo EP'' with Medasin, and ''Loose Thoughts''. He gained widespread attention with his collaborative record with FKJ called "Tadow" in 2017.
