Women's Premier League (cricket)
The Women's Premier League (WPL) also known as TATA WPL due to sponsorship reasons, is an upcoming women's Twenty20 cricket franchise league in India. It is owned and operated by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The first season will be played in March 2023 in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai with five franchises taking part. History The first major women's Twenty20 competition in India was the Women's T20 Challenge. This started as a single-match tournament in 2018, and was expanded to a three-team, three-match competition held in 2019, 2020 and 2022. In February 2022, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly announced plans to start a women's version of the Indian Premier League, the major men's Twenty20 competition in India, replacing the Women's T20 challenge. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is the national governing body for cricket in India. Its headquarters are situated at Cricket centre, Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The BCCI is the richest governing body of cricket in the world and is part of the ''Big Three'' of international cricket, along with Cricket Australia and the England and Wales Cricket Board. DY Patil Stadium
The DY Patil Stadium, also known as DY Patil Sports Stadium, is a multi-purpose stadium at D. Y. Patil campus at Nerul in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. It was designed by Hafeez Contractor. It is a privately owned ground and is the home of D.Y. Patil Sports Academy. It is primarily a cricket stadium however is used for many different events from cricket and football, to music concerts and special events. Brabourne Stadium
The Brabourne Stadium is a cricket ground in Mumbai in Western India, built in the British Bombay era. It was the home ground of the Mumbai men's and women's cricket teams. It can accommodate 50,000 people for sports matches. The ground is owned by the Cricket Club of India (CCI). The North Stand of the Brabourne had housed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) headquarters and the 1983 Cricket World Cup trophy until 2006, when both were moved to the newly built ''Cricket Centre'' at the nearby Wankhede Stadium.
