The UP Warriorz are an Indian women's cricket team that compete in the Women's Premier League (WPL), based in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. The team is owned by Capri Global. The team is coached by Jon Lewis and captained by Alyssa Healy. The side reached the eliminator at the inaugural edition of the WPL, but lost to Mumbai Indians. History In October 2022, the BCCI announced its intentions to hold a five-team women's franchise cricket tournament in March 2023. The tournament was named the Women's Premier League in January 2023, with investors buying the rights to franchises through a closed bidding process during the same month. Capri Global bought the rights to one of the franchises, to be based in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. In February 2023, Jon Lewis was announced as head coach of the side. Women's Premier League (cricket)
The Women's Premier League (WPL) also known as TATA WPL due to sponsorship reasons, is an upcoming women's Twenty20 cricket franchise league in India. It is owned and operated by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The first season will be played in March 2023 in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai with five franchises taking part. History The first major women's Twenty20 competition in India was the Women's T20 Challenge. This started as a single-match tournament in 2018, and was expanded to a three-team, three-match competition held in 2019, 2020 and 2022. In February 2022, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly announced plans to start a women's version of the Indian Premier League, the major men's Twenty20 competition in India, replacing the Women's T20 challenge. Ashley Allan Noffke (born 30 April 1977) is a former Australian professional cricketer who played domestically for Queensland (1998–2009) and Western Australia (2009–2010). Anju Jain (born 11 August 1974) is an Indian former cricketer and current cricket coach. She played as a wicket-keeper and right-handed batter.
