Wolverhampton United Football Club was a football club based in Wolverhampton, England. They were based at Prestwood Road in the Wednesfield area of the city. History Wolverhampton United was established in 1976 as a merger between Oxley F.C. and Whitmore Old Boys F.C. and joined the West Midlands (Regional) League. In their first season they were crowned champions of Division One B. In 1981–82, United were runners-up and were promoted to the Premier Division. They entered the FA Vase four times in the 1980s, reaching the Fourth Round in 1982–83. They were relegated in 1987–88, but returned to the Premier Division in 1996 after finishing runners-up. United were again relegated 1999, but were promoted again after finishing runners-up in 1999–00 and champions in 2000–01. They returned to Division One in 2003–04. The club folded in 2019. Wednesfield
Wednesfield is a town and historic village in the City of Wolverhampton, West Midlands, England, It is east-northeast of Wolverhampton city centre and about from Birmingham and is part of the West Midlands conurbation. It was historically within the county of Staffordshire. Its name comes from the Old English ''Wōdnesfeld'' meaning ''Woden's Field'', open land belonging to, or holy to, the high god of the Germanic Pantheon. Wolverhampton () is a city, metropolitan borough and administrative centre in the West Midlands, England. The population size has increased by 5.7%, from around 249,500 in 2011 to 263,700 in 2021. People from the city are called "Wulfrunians". Historically part of Staffordshire, the city grew initially as a market town specialising in the wool trade. West Midlands (Regional) League
The West Midlands (Regional) League is an English association football competition for semi-professional and amateur teams based in the West Midlands county, Shropshire, Worcestershire, southern Staffordshire and northern Herefordshire. It has two divisions, the highest of which is Division One, a regional feeder for the National League System (NLS) at the eleventh level of the overall English football league system. The league was formed in 1889 as the Birmingham & District League to cater for teams in Birmingham and the surrounding area, but soon became established as one of the strongest leagues outside the Football League itself, with teams from as far afield as Bristol and Wales taking part. The Football Association Challenge Vase, usually referred to as the FA Vase, is an annual football competition for teams playing in Steps 5 and 6 of the English National League System (or equivalently, tier 9 or 10 of the overall English football league system). For the 2017–18 season 619 entrants were accepted, with two qualifying rounds preceding the six proper rounds, semi-finals (played over two legs) and final to be played at Wembley Stadium. The league was one of three official feeder leagues to the Midland Football Alliance. Prior to 2006, the Premier Division was defined as step 7 in the National League System, even though it fed into the step 5 Midland Alliance. In 2006, it was re-graded as step 6, making teams in the top two divisions eligible to take part in the FA Vase and teams in the top division eligible to enter the FA Cup. Dudley is a large market town and administrative centre in the county of West Midlands, England, southeast of Wolverhampton and northwest of Birmingham. Historically an exclave of Worcestershire, the town is the administrative centre of the Metropolitan Borough of Dudley; in 2011 it had a population of 79,379. The JW Hunt Cup is an annual charity football competition for teams based in the West Midlands area of England. The defending champions are Lye Town, who defeated Boldmere St. Michaels 2–1 in the 2021–22 final. History The JW Hunt Cup was formed in 1926 to raise funds for the benefit of the local blind. It is named in memory of John William Hunt, a local businessman, keen supporter of charities and founder of the Chillington Tool Company. The inaugural winners at the end of the 1926–27 season were Short Heath United, beating Cannon Iron on 14 April 1927 at Molineux. Short Heath United are the joint most successful club in the competition alongside Goodyear F.C, with both clubs having won on four occasions.
