Wolfgang Mayr
Wolfgang Mayr (born 1944) is an Austrian journalist and former chief editor of Austria Presse Agentur. Life Mayr was born on 11 June 1944 in Schärding, Upper Austria. The son of an Innviertel teacher and merchant family, he attended the Stift Kremsmünster humanistic high school and then went to study in Vienna. In 1968, he joined the editorial team of the Austria Press Agency. In 1981 he became deputy head of department and in 1988 head of the foreign policy editorial department. From 1988 he worked as managing editor, became deputy editor-in-chief in 1993 and took over as successor to Josef A. Nowak in 1997. He campaigned for a modern and service-oriented agency, in particular by setting up an image service and a graphic editorial team in the 1980s and 1990s. He retired in 2005. Schärding
Schärding ( , Bavarian name: Scharing) is a town in northern Austrian state of Upper Austria, the capital of the district of the same name, and a major port on the Inn River. Historically, it was owned by the Wittelsbach family, which reflects in the town's architecture. As of 1 January 2021, it had a population of 5,216. The Innviertel (literally German for "Inn Quarter"; officially called the ''Innkreis''; ) is a traditional Austrian region southeast of the Inn river. It forms the western part of the state of Upper Austria and borders the German state of Bavaria. The Innviertel is one of the four traditional "quarters" of Upper Austria, the others being Hausruckviertel, Mühlviertel, and Traunviertel. The Innviertel is the northwestern quarter of Upper Austria and includes the districts Braunau am Inn, Ried im Innkreis and Schärding. Since the formation of the political districts in 1868, the quarters in Upper Austria no longer have a legal basis and are purely regional names.
