Winne Byanyima
Winston Bergwijn (born April 20, 1978), known professionally as Winne, is a Dutch rapper. Career Winne was born in Paramaribo, Suriname, and moved to Rotterdam at a young age. He started rapping in English, initially under the name Static, until his friends encouraged him to rap in Dutch. With his group D.C.O., he performed at various locations in Rotterdam. In 2005, Winne suddenly became known to a wider audience when his track "Top 3 MC", produced by Kapitein Mo, was released on the internet. A few months later, the track "Pomp Die Shit!" was released on the compilation album ''What's da Flavor?!'', which left its mark on the Dutch hip hop scene. Then he appeared on albums of Opgezwolle and U-Niq. In 2006, he was signed by the label TopNotch. In 2007, he released his debut EP ''Onoverwinnelijk'', which included the tracks "Top 3 MC", "Pomp die Shit!" and "Begrijp me niet verkeerd". Rapping
Rapping (also rhyming, spitting, emceeing or MCing) is a musical form of vocal delivery that incorporates "rhyme, rhythmic speech, and street vernacular". It is performed or chanted, usually over a backing beat or musical accompaniment. The components of rap include "content" (what is being said), "flow" (rhythm, rhyme), and "delivery" (cadence, tone). TopNotch is a Dutch record label specializing in hip-hop. The label was founded in 1995, and is run by Vincent Patty. After some commercial success (with rap acts such as De Jeugd van Tegenwoordig, The Opposites, Def Rhymz, Postmen, and Extince) it became allied with Virgin EMI Records, and since 2004 has a marketing and distribution deal with PIAS Entertainment Group. It has expanded into Dutch-language music by singer-songwriters such as Lucky Fonz III, and in 2009 signed a distribution and marketing agreement with Universal Music Group. Opgezwolle
Opgezwolle () was a Dutch rap group consisting of MCs Sticky Steez and Phreako Rico, and beatmaker DJ Dippy Delic. Biography In 2001 Opgezwolle competed in a contest called "De Oogst van Overijssel". After winning the final in Enschede in May 2001 they got a place in the regional final of the GPNL, and in the summer they recorded their first album ''Spuugdingen op de Mic''. Opgezwolle made it to the final of the GPNL where they competed with Raymzter. The jury thought that Raymzter made a better impression and he won the contest. DJ Delic got a prize as "Musician of the Evening". On the evening before the GPNL final, they presented ''Spuugdingen op de Mic'' in Hedon, Zwolle. The album received overall positive reviews from critics. In 2002 Opgezwolle began their "Homegrown" Tour. Anthony Pengel (born July 10, 1976), known professionally as U-Niq, is a Dutch rapper from Rotterdam. He was part of the rap group The Most Official. Originally interested in football (he was a youth player for Feyenoord), U-Niq began rapping at age 13, influenced by Rakim and Big Daddy Kane. Henny Vrienten
Henny Vrienten (27 July 1948 – 25 April 2022) was a Dutch musician best known as the singer and bassist of the popular 1980s ska pop band Doe Maar. He also composed television and film scores. Biography Early days Vrienten began his career in the late 1960s as a member of the local outfit Les Cruches. In the early 1970s, he wrote songs for others and released his first single as Ruby Carmichael. In 1977, Vrienten released his debut solo album, ''Paul Santos'', which he recorded with US producer Tom Salisbury. "Lift Me Up Higher" was extracted as a single. Also in the 1970s, he began working with singer-songwriter Boudewijn de Groot in the studio and on stage. While recording the 1975 album ''Waar ik woon en wie ik ben'', Vrienten met keyboard player Ernst Jansz and drummer Johnny Lodewijks. The latter suggested they form a reggae band. Doe Maar
Doe Maar was a Dutch ska band with punk and reggae influences whose career peaked from 1978 to 1984. They are one of the most successful pop bands in Dutch history. 'Doe maar' translates as ''go ahead'' or ''just do it''. History Early years and debut album Doe Maar was formed in 1978 by Ernst Jansz (CCC Inc., The Slumberlandband). Piet Dekker, with whom Jansz played in The Slumberlandband (1975) and The Rumbones (1977), introduced him to Jan Hendriks and Carel Copier in the spring of 1978 at the farm of Gé van de Donk, who later became their sound engineer.
