Wim Boost
Willem Louis Joseph Boost (2 July 1918, Breda - 1 August 2005, Breukelen), was a Dutch cartoonist, using the alias WiBo. Boost (pronounced "boast") started his career as a drawing teacher, and then started to work for the Toonder studios. He worked for several journals and newspapers, including ''Jeugdkampioen'', ''Het Lichtspoor'', ''Mandril'', ''Haagse Post'' (1952-1955), and ''Studio'' (1963-1965). He also worked for Dutch national newspaper ''de Volkskrant ''de Volkskrant'' (; ''The People's Paper'') is a Dutch daily morning newspaper. Breda
Breda () is a city and municipality in the southern part of the Netherlands, located in the province of North Brabant. The name derived from ''brede Aa'' ('wide Aa' or 'broad Aa') and refers to the confluence of the rivers Mark and Aa. Breda has 185,072 inhabitants on 13 September 2022 and is part of the Brabantse Stedenrij; it is the ninth largest city/municipality in the country, and the third largest in North Brabant after Eindhoven and Tilburg. Breukelen
Breukelen () is a town and former municipality in the Netherlands, in the province of Utrecht. It is situated to the north west of Utrecht, along the river Vecht and close to the lakes of the Loosdrechtse Plassen, an area of natural and tourist interest. It is located in an area called the Vechtstreek. It is the namesake of the borough of Brooklyn in New York City. History During the 17th century, many wealthy Amsterdam merchant families built their mansions along the river Vecht. In Disaster Year 1672 the village and no less than 8 castles and mansions near Breukelen were severely damaged by warfare. Most of them were burned down by the French. Marten Toonder
Marten Toonder (2 May 1912 – 27 July 2005) was a Dutch comic strip creator, born in Rotterdam. He was probably the most successful comic artist in the Netherlands and had a great influence on the Dutch language by introducing new words and expressions. He is most famous for his series ''Tom Puss'' and ''Panda''. Tom Puss/Oliver B. Bumble series In 1931 after his final exams, Marten Toonder went to Buenos Aires with his father. Here he got acquainted with the work of the well-known Argentine artist and editor Dante Quinterno, who ran a studio producing comics. Quinterno's creations impressed him to such a degree that he decided to become an artist himself. His most famous comic series were the Tom Puss (''Tom Poes'' in Dutch) and Oliver B. Bumble (''Olivier B. Bommel'' in Dutch) series that appeared in a Dutch newspaper from 1941–86. It has a very characteristic format.
