Club Deportivo Jorge Wilstermann, known simply as Wilstermann, is a Bolivian football club from the city of Cochabamba, founded on 24 November 1949 by a group of workers of Lloyd Aereo Boliviano. It is named after Bolivian aviator Jorge Wilstermann. Wilstermann is one of the three most frequent winners of the Primera Division de Bolivia and the first Bolivian team to qualify to the Copa Libertadores semi-finals. History On November 24, 1949, a group of employees of Lloyd Aéreo Boliviano met to form a football club that would be identified with the company and become the pride of its workers. After two hours of debate, they founded the club with the name "San Jose de la Banda" in tribute to the area and the airport in Cochabamba. They proceeded to the election of the board, and appointed Justo Mancilla as club president. After some debate, blue and white were chosen as the team colors. Bolivian Primera División
The División de Fútbol Profesional is the top-flight professional football league in Bolivia. Until 2017 it was known as the "Liga de Fútbol Profesional Boliviano" (; en, Bolivian Professional Football League). Since 1950, a total of 16 clubs have been crowned champions of the Bolivian football league system. The current champions are Bolívar, which won the title in the 2022 Apertura tournament. Bolívar is also the most successful club in the league, with 30 titles to date. 2022 Bolivian Primera División Season
The 2022 Bolivian Primera División season, known as the 2022 Copa Tigo season for sponsorship reasons, was the 45th season of the División Profesional del Fútbol Boliviano, Bolivia's top-flight football league and the fifth season under División de Fútbol Profesional management. The season began on 4 February and was scheduled to end on 13 November 2022. In the Torneo Apertura, Bolívar won their thirtieth league title and twenty-fourth in the professional era, by defeating crosstown rivals The Strongest in the final match played on 12 June by a 3–0 score. Jorge Wilstermann
Jorge Wilstermann (; 23 April 1910 – 17 January 1936) was the first Bolivian commercial pilot. The son of a mechanic who worked for Lloyd Aéreo Boliviano, Wilstermann took an interest in aviation, and became Bolivia's first civilian aviator. Jorge Wilstermann died in 1936, after an aeroplane accident when flying the Cochabamba–Oruro route on his Junkers airplane. Wilstermann's pioneerism inspired homages in Bolivia. His friend and the then boss of Lloyd Aéreo Boliviano, Wálter Lemm, requested that the name of the local airport in Cochabamba and the local football team's name (which was started by people involved in aviation, workers for Lloyd Aéreo Boliviano) be changed to Jorge Wilstermann in his honour. Lloyd Aéreo Boliviano
Lloyd Aéreo Boliviano S.A.M. (abbreviated LAB and internationally known as LAB Airlines), was the flag carrier and principal airline of Bolivia from 1925 until it ceased operations in 2010. Before its demise it was headquartered in Cochabamba and had its main hubs at Jorge Wilstermann International Airport and Viru Viru International Airport. Renán López Echeverría (31 October 1939 – 10 March 2023) was a Bolivian footballer who played as a midfielder for Jorge Wilstermann. He made seven appearances for the Bolivia national team from 1963 to 1967. Rómulo Cortez
Rómulo Cortez is a Bolivian former football coach and player. Starting professional football at 17 with C.D. Jorge Wilstermann of the domestic league, he took part in first-ever Copa Libertadores, the premier club tournament for South American countries. He was joint top scorer in the 1968 American Soccer League with 10 goals for the Washington Darts, sharing the honor with teammate Gerry Brown.
