The English Football League (EFL) is a league of professional football clubs from England and Wales. Founded in 1888 as the Football League, the league is the oldest such competition in the world. It was the top-level football league in England from its foundation until 1992, when the top 22 clubs split from it to form the Premier League. Norman Low
Norman Harvey Low (23 March 1914 – 21 May 1994) was a Scottish football player and manager. He was the son of Scottish international footballer, Wilf Low. A central defender, he played for Newcastle United between 1931 and 1933, before a three years spell with Liverpool. From 1936 up until the end of World War II he turned out for Newport County, helping the club to the Third Division South title in 1938–39. After the war he spent 1946 to 1950 with Norwich City. In 1950 he was appointed as Norwich City's manager, and led to the club to a second-place finish in the Third Division South in 1950–51. Despite this, promotion alluded him before he departed in April 1955. He spent January 1956 to February 1957 as Workington's manager, before he was installed in the hotseat at Port Vale. Harry Low
Henry Forbes Low (15 August 1882 – 26 September 1920) was a Scottish professional footballer who made over 200 appearances in the Football League for Sunderland as a left half. He also played in the Scottish League for Aberdeen. Club career A left half, Low began his senior career with newly-formed Northern League club Aberdeen and was a part of their rise from the Northern League to Scottish League Division One during the early years of the 20th century. He made 114 appearances and scored 30 goals during four seasons at Pittodrie and transferred to English First Division club Sunderland for a £400 fee in May 1907. Low played eight seasons for Sunderland, before the suspension of league football in 1915 (following the outbreak of the First World War) ended his competitive career with the club. Wilfrid Lawson Low (8 December 1884 – 30 April 1933) was a Scottish footballer who played as a centre-half for Aberdeen and Newcastle United. Low was nicknamed the "Laughing Cavalier", although opposition forwards may have disagreed with this as he was a typical hard defender of that time. He played 367 games for Newcastle scoring 8 goals. He also played for the Scotland national team, winning five caps between 1911 and 1920. Low remained with Newcastle after his playing retirement, firstly as a coach for the Swifts junior side, then latterly as the club's groundsman. The Scottish Football League (SFL) was a league featuring professional and semi-professional football clubs mostly from Scotland.One club, Berwick Rangers, is based in the town of Berwick-upon-Tweed, which is located approximately 4 km south of the Anglo-Scottish border.
