Wilf Low
Wilfrid Lawson Low (8 December 1884 – 30 April 1933) was a Scottish footballer who played as a centre-half for Aberdeen and Newcastle United. Low was nicknamed the "Laughing Cavalier", although opposition forwards may have disagreed with this as he was a typical hard defender of that time. He played 367 games for Newcastle scoring 8 goals. He also played for the Scotland national team, winning five caps between 1911 and 1920. Low remained with Newcastle after his playing retirement, firstly as a coach for the Swifts junior side, then latterly as the club's groundsman. 1909–10 FA Cup
The 1909–10 FA Cup was the 39th season of the world's oldest association football competition, the Football Association Challenge Cup (more usually known as the FA Cup). Newcastle United won the competition for the first time, beating Barnsley 2–0 in the replay of the final at Goodison Park in Liverpool, through two goals from Albert Shepherd. The first match, held at Crystal Palace, London, was a 1–1 draw. Matches were scheduled to be played at the stadium of the team named first on the date specified for each round, which was always a Saturday. If scores were level after 90 minutes had been played, a replay would take place at the stadium of the second-named team later the same week. If the replayed match was drawn further replays would be held at neutral venues until a winner was determined. The Scotland national football team is the joint-oldest international football team, having played in the first official international match, a goalless draw on 30 November 1872 against England.
