Willie Duncan
Willie Duncan was born in Iserlohn on 20 April 1955. The left-handed guitarist/vocalist joined the Spider Murphy Gang in 1982. Willie Duncan came to Germany in 1977 from Hitchin, Hertfordshire, England. Leaving behind Trevor Walter who was later drummer for Johnny Wakelin In Zaire and The Look "I Am the Beat". Claymore formed with his friends Martin Binks on drums and Steve Hyde on bass. They recorded their first song with singer Dave Jackson. The Willie Duncan Band released the first single "Sommerferien" in 1983. Iserlohn
Iserlohn (; Westphalian: ''Iserlaun'') is a city in the Märkischer Kreis district, in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is the largest city by population and area within the district and the Sauerland region. Geography Iserlohn is located at the north end of the Sauerland near the Ruhr river, in West-Central Germany. History The Pancratius church (also called Bauernkirche) is believed to have been founded in around 985, but the first written document mentioning ''lon'' dates only from 1150. In 1237 the Count of the Mark gave Iserlohn municipal rights. Spider Murphy Gang
The Spider Murphy Gang is a German band from Munich best known for their greatest hit "Skandal im Sperrbezirk", which is a famous song of the Neue Deutsche Welle. It was founded in 1977 by bank clerk Günther Sigl, together with Gerhard Gmell ("Barny Murphy"), Michael Busse and Franz Trojan. Elements of the Bavarian German dialect are used in many songs. Their name is a reference to Elvis Presley's song, " Jailhouse Rock", in which a 'Spider Murphy' played the tenor saxophone. "Spider Murphy" is also referred to in a song written by Larry Kirwan of the Irish fusion Band Black 47's song, "Forty Deuce." The song appears referential to both the Spider Murphy Gang and to "Jailhouse Rock", for the live version from 2006's "Bittersweet 16" includes a saxophone solo which the singer recalls having heard in Sing Sing prison. Johnny Wakelin
Johnny Wakelin (born 1939) is an English recording artist best known for songs like "Black Superman" and "In Zaire", both celebrating boxer Muhammad Ali. Career Wakelin had his first outings in clubs in his hometown but without big success. Discovered by Pye record producer Robin Blanchflower, the man who launched Carl Douglas to the top of the UK Singles Chart with "Kung Fu Fighting", and working with Steve Elson and Keith Rossiter in addition to Blanchflower, Wakelin set about writing songs that would, he hoped, "catch people's eye" "Black Superman (Muhammad Ali)" In late 1972, Wakelin wrote and recorded the original version of the song, under the title "Hungarian Superman (Joe Bugner)" as an homage to the Hungarian-born British-Australian boxer by that name. The Look (band)
The Look are an English pop band, who had a number six hit single in the UK Singles Chart with "I Am the Beat" in 1980. Career From Ely, Cambridgeshire and originally named The Kreed, the band changed their name to The Look when they moved to London. Their lead singer and frontman was Jonny Whetstone (born c. 1955). The band's 1980 debut single, "I Am the Beat" was a Top 10 hit, peaking at No. 6 on the UK Singles Chart. After the minor follow-up hit "Feeding Time" (No. 50, 1981), their third single "Tonight" failed to reach the charts. The singles, and self-titled album, were released on the MCA Records label. Jürgen Drews
Jürgen Ludwig Drews (born 2 April 1945) is a German Schlager singer, musician, songwriter and actor. Life Drews was born in Nauen near Berlin, and brought up in Schleswig. After finishing school, he went on to study medicine at the University of Kiel, but dropped out of medical school to work as a singer. At age 15 he received an award as Best Banjo Player of Schleswig-Holstein, while playing in jazz band the ''Schnirpels''. At school he played in "The Monkeys". In 1967 he was solo guitarist in the Kiel based psychedelic rock band "Chimes of Freedom", later renamed by its manager to "Die Anderen" (The Others). In that same year, Drews took on his first acting role as a student and musician in the German film comedy ''Zur Hölle mit den Paukern''.
