William Stuart Knox
The Hon. William Stuart Knox DL, JP (11 March 1826 – 16 February 1900), was an Irish politician. Background Knox was a younger son of Thomas Knox, 2nd Earl of Ranfurly, and Mary Juliana, daughter of the Most Reverend William Stuart, Archbishop of Armagh. Political and military career Knox was elected Member of Parliament for Dungannon in 1851 (succeeding his elder brother Viscount Northland), a seat he held until 1874. He was a Groom in Waiting to Queen Victoria in 1852 and 1853. Commissioned into the 51st Foot, he retired as a major in 1855. From 1867 he was Honorary Colonel in the Mid Ulster Artillery, and he served as a Deputy Lieutenant and Justice of the Peace for County Tyrone. Family Knox married in 1856 Georgiana Rooper, daughter of John Bonfoy Rooper, of Ripton Hall, Huntingdon. They had several children. Huntingdon
Huntingdon is a market town in the Huntingdonshire district in Cambridgeshire, England. The town was given its town charter by King John in 1205. It was the county town of the historic county of Huntingdonshire. Oliver Cromwell was born there in 1599 and became one of its Members of Parliament (MP) in 1628. The former Conservative Prime Minister (1990–1997) John Major served as its MP from 1979 until his retirement in 2001. History Huntingdon was founded by the Anglo-Saxons and Danes. It is first mentioned in the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle in 921, where it appears as ''Huntandun''. It appears as ''Huntedun'' in the Domesday Book of 1086. Thomas Alexander Dickson
Thomas Alexander Dickson PC (12 October 1833 – 17 June 1909) was an Irish Liberal Party politician. He represented a series of Irish constituencies as a Member of Parliament (MP) in the House of Commons of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. Dickson was elected to Westminster at the general election in 1874 as MP for Dungannon in County Tyrone, and re-elected at the 1880 general election. His re-election was declared void on 10 June 1880 following a petition from the losing candidate, Colonel Knox. His son, James Dickson won the seat at the subsequent by-election with an increased majority. He was returned to Parliament the following year in a by-election for the County Tyrone constituency, and held that seat until the Tyrone constituency was divided at the 1885 general election.
