William Rabb Beatty
William Rabb Beatty (June 11, 1851 – February 8, 1905) was an Ontario businessman and political figure. He represented Parry Sound in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario as a Liberal-Patrons of Industry member from 1894 to 1898 and as a Liberal from 1898 to 1902. He was the manager for the Beatty Line, a steamship company operating on the Great Lakes. His brother Walter Beatty also served in the provincial assembly. James Sharpe (1846 – October 30, 1935) was an English-born merchant and political figure in Ontario, Canada. He represented Parry Sound electoral district in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario as a Liberal member from 1890 to 1894. Joseph Milton Carr (December 24, 1858 – August 26, 1929) was a merchant and politician in Ontario, Canada. Patrons Of Industry
The Patrons of Industry in Canada were based on the Patrons of Industry of Michigan that had formed in 1889. It was dedicated to upholding and encouraging the moral, social, intellectual, political and financial situation of farmers and to preserve the way of life that existed in farming communities in the late nineteenth century against encroaching industrialization. It cooperated with the urban labour movement to address the political frustrations of both groups with big business. The Patrons' first appearance in Canada was The Grand Association of the Patrons of Industry in Ontario, founded in 1890. It declared itself independent of the U.S. group in 1891. Although centred in Ontario, the organization branched out into Manitoba (see Patrons of Industry in Manitoba), Alberta, Quebec and the Maritime provinces. Parry Sound is a town in Ontario, Canada, located on the eastern shore of the sound after which it is named. Parry Sound is located south of Sudbury and north of Toronto. Walter Beatty
Walter Beatty (January 3, 1836 – January 5, 1911) was a Canadian land surveyor and political figure. He represented Leeds in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1894 to 1904 as a Conservative member. He was born in Lansdowne, Upper Canada in 1836, educated in Brockville and qualified as a Dominion Land Surveyor in 1872, undertaking surveys in what is now Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. He served under General Middleton in the Intelligence Corps during the North-West Rebellion. Beatty served as warden for the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville in 1890 and 1891.
