Wilhelm Kolle
Wilhelm Kolle (born 2 November 1868 in Lerbach, Osterode am Harz, Lerbach near Osterode am Harz, died 10 May 1935) was a German bacteriologist and hygienist. He served as the second director of the Paul Ehrlich Institute, Royal Institute for Experimental Therapy, succeeding its founder, the Nobel laureate Paul Ehrlich. He was also the original author, with Heinrich Hetsch, of the famous book ''Experimental Bacteriology'', one of the most authoritative works in microbiology in the first half of the 20th century. Following studies of medicine at the universities of University of Göttingen, Göttingen, University of Halle, Halle and University of Würzburg, Würzburg, he became an assistant to Robert Koch at the ''Institut für Infektionskrankheiten'' (Institute for Infectious Diseases) in Berlin (1893–97). Rudolf Kraus
Rudolf Kraus (31 October 1868, Jungbunzlau – 15 July 1932) was an Austrian pathologist, bacteriologist and immunologist known for his work with bacterial precipitins. In 1893 he obtained his doctorate at the University of Prague. Following studies at the Pasteur Institute in Paris, he settled in Vienna in 1895 as an assistant to Richard Paltauf (1858-1924) at the serotherapeutic institute. In 1901 he became a privat-docent for general and experimental pathology, followed by a promotion as associate professor in 1906. In 1908 he traveled to St. Petersburg, where he conducted investigations of an epidemic of cholera. Shortly before the outbreak of World War I, he moved to South America. August Paul von Wassermann (21 February 1866 – 16 March 1925) was a German bacteriologist and hygienist. Born in Bamberg, with Jewish origins, he studied at several universities throughout Germany, receiving his medical doctorate in 1888 from the University of Strassburg. In 1890 he began work under Robert Koch at the Institute for Infectious Diseases in Berlin. Helmut Kolle
Helmut Kolle (24 February 1899 – 17 November 1931) was a German painter who found major success in France in the 1920s, fusing the German Modernism, modernist style with that of French art, French painting. Kolle was born in Berlin-Charlottenburg, the second son of the noted bacteriologist Wilhelm Kolle (1868–1935) and Helene Alwine Brigl. His father initially worked at Robert Koch's Berlin institute (the Robert Koch Institute) and then relocated to Bern in Switzerland with his family in 1906. There Kolle also received some instruction in painting and drawing. In 1917, the family moved to Frankfurt where Wilhelm Kolle became director of the Royal Institute for Experimental Therapy (now the Paul Ehrlich Institute).
