Wiconisco Canal
The Wiconisco Canal was a 19th century transportation waterway, about long, in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, Dauphin County in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. Anthracite, also known as hard coal, and black coal, is a hard, compact variety of coal that has a submetallic luster. The Panic of 1837 was a financial crisis in the United States that touched off a major depression, which lasted until the mid-1840s. Profits, prices, and wages went down, westward expansion was stalled, unemployment went up, and pessimism abounded. The panic had both domestic and foreign origins. The Clarks Ferry Bridge is a plate girder bridge that carries U.S. Routes 22 and 322 across the Susquehanna River near Duncannon, Pennsylvania, about 20 miles north of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The Main Line of Public Works was a package of legislation passed by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in 1826 to establish a means of transporting freight between Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.
