Wiawso College Of Education
The Wiawso College of Education is a teacher education college in the Sefwi-Wiawso District, Western North Region, Ghana. The college participated in the DFID-funded T-TEL programme. It is affiliated to the University of Education, Winneba. Education In 2019, 385 student teachers graduated with a Diploma in Basic Education. History Wiawso College of Education (popularly called Legon of the West) traces its origin to Kumasi. The college was formally opened in 1952 under the name Wiawso Body Corporate Training College. The college pioneered with three tutorial staff and twenty nine students on February 13, 1952. Mr. J.T.N. Yankah who was the acting Principal, Mr. B. A. Quarcoo, senior house master, Mr. E. O. Nortey, tutor and Mr. R. S. A. Kwarteng as the college clerk. Sefwi-Wiawso District
Sefwi-Wiawso Municipal District is one of the nine districts in Western North Region, Ghana. Originally created as an ordinary district assembly in 1988 when it was known as Sefwi-Wiawso District, until the southwest part of the district was split off to create Sefwi-Akontombra District on 29 February 2008; thus the remaining part has been retained as Sefwi-Wiawso District, which it was later elevated to municipal district assembly status in March 2012 (effectively 28 June 2012) to become Sefwi-Wiawso Municipal District. The municipality is located in the northeast part of Western North Region and has Wiawso as its capital town. Western North Region
The Western North Region is one of the six new regions of Ghana created in 2019. The region is bounded by the Ivory Coast ( Comoé District) on the west, the Central region in the southeast, and the Ashanti, Ahafo, Bono East and Bono regions in the north. Wiawso
Sefwi Wiawso is a town in the Sefwi-Wiawso Municipal District in the Western North Region of Ghana. It doubles as the capital of Sefwi-Wiawso Municipal District and Western North Region. Wiawso serves as the traditional seat for the Omanhene of Sefwi-Wiawso traditional area. The settlement of wiawso began on hilltop with Sefwi-Dwenase settlement occupying the lowlands. Overtime, Wiawso and Sefwi-Dwenase have conurbated with almost all the financial institutions, governmental agency-offices, lorry terminals and the main market all located in Sefwi Dwenase. According to the International Standard Classification of Education (ISCED), basic education comprises the two stages primary education and lower secondary education.
