Whitestone School
Whitestone School is an independent, day, preparatory school in for boys and girls in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. Whitestone School is a member of the Association of Trust Schools (ATS) and the Head is a member of the Conference of Heads of Independent Schools in Zimbabwe (CHISZ). History M. G. Fleming acquired land and opened Whitestone School in 1942. Whitestone was sold by Mr Fleming to Ruzawi Schools Ltd thus being run as an Anglican Diocesan preparatory school for boys. In 1975, the school was closed as a result of the sudden decline in enrollment, due mainly to the removal of many Zambian pupils. In 1978 all movable property was auctioned and the buildings remained empty for partial occupation by pupils and staff of Cyrene Mission during the civil war years. The Whitestone School Trust was founded in 1981 and the school was purchased from Ruzawi Schools Ltd. It was re-opened in September 1982 as a co-educational school for day and boarding pupils. Bulawayo
Bulawayo (, ; Ndebele: ''Bulawayo'') is the second largest city in Zimbabwe, and the largest city in the country's Matabeleland region. The city's population is disputed; the 2022 census listed it at 665,940, while the Bulawayo City Council claimed it to be about 1.2 million. Bulawayo covers an area of about in the western part of the country, along the Matsheumhlope River. Along with the capital Harare, Bulawayo is one of two cities in Zimbabwe that is also a province. Bulawayo was founded by a group led by Gundwane Ndiweni around 1840 as the kraal of Mzilikazi, the Ndebele king and was known as Gibixhegu. His son, Lobengula, succeeded him in the 1860s, and changed the name to kobulawayo and ruled from Bulawayo until 1893, when the settlement was captured by British South Africa Company soldiers during the First Matabele War. Trail Runner
Trail running is a sport-activity which combines running, and, where there are steep gradients, hiking, that is run "on any unpaved surface". It is similar to both mountain and fell running (also known as hill running). Mountain running may, however, include paved sections. Trail running normally takes place in warm climates, or on good paths, or tracks which are relatively easy to follow, and does not necessarily involve the significant amounts of ascent, or need for navigating skills, normal in fell running. Unlike road running and track running it generally takes place on hiking trails, often in mountainous terrain, where there can be much larger ascents and descents. ATSZ
The Association of Trust Schools (ATS) is an organisation of independent primary and secondary schools in Zimbabwe that was founded in 1962. Each of these schools are run by their own Board of Governors and are not for profit entities. The Heads of ATS schools are eligible for membership in the CHISZ. There are 66 schools in the ATS. History In 1962 CHISZ was formed with nine member headmasters: those of Arundel, Bishopslea, Chisipite, Eagle, Falcon, Peterhouse, St. Peter's, Springvale, Whitestone and Bernard Mizeki College. Their purpose was mutual support and encouragement. By the mid-1970s, twenty-four schools attended the Conference. A dip then followed leading up to independence with only nine members attending in 1981. Daniel Rowland (runner)
Daniel Westcar Rowland (born 3 May 1984) is a Zimbabwean long-distance trail runner. He competes in ultra marathons and multi-day stage races around the world. Early life and education Rowland was born in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe on 3 May 1984. He attended Whitestone School and Christian Brothers College, Bulawayo (St Patrick's). He studied Business Science at the University of Cape Town, graduating with First Class Honours in 2007. He worked for Anglo American plc in the finance division from 2008–2012. He became a full-time ultra runner in 2012. He lives in Blonay, Switzerland. Triathlon Rowland started triathlon at an early age and won his first triathlon at the age of 11. Cricket
Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). Means of dismissal include being bowled, when the ball hits the stumps and dislodges the bails, and by the fielding side either catching the ball after it is hit by the bat, but before it hits the ground, or hitting a wicket with the ball before a batter can cross the crease in front of the wicket. Keegan Meth
Keegan Orry Meth (born 8 February 1988) is a Zimbabwean cricketer. He plays domestically for the Matabeleland Tuskers and has represented Zimbabwe in One Day Internationals (ODIs). An all-rounder, he bowls right-arm medium-fast and generally bats in the lower middle order. Early life and education He attended Whitestone School, Falcon College, St Georges College Harare and subsequently Christian Brothers College. His academic performance was poor, but he excelled in sport. Career He made his debut for Zimbabwe in 2006, in a One Day International (ODI) against Kenya at Bulawayo. He was aged 18 at the time.
