White City (band)
White City was a progressive/punk/rock band, based in Kabul, Afghanistan. The current line-up consists of Ruth Owen (UK), on bass and lead vocals, Travis Beard (Australia) on guitar and backing vocals and Andreas Stefansson (Sweden) on drums and backing vocals. Origins White City was formed circa June 2007, playing mostly covers. The initial core of the band was Aurélien de Saint André and Charlie Putz, who formed a short lived band called "The Kablues Band", with bassist Jeremy Foster and longtime member Andreas Stefansson. The name "White City" refers to a security status imposing on all UN personnel a strict curfew during a period of high security tensions. It was suggested to the band in June 2007 at a European Commission party, which a lot of people couldn't attend because of a white city security status. Echobelly
Echobelly are a British rock band, debuting in 1994 with their album ''Everyone's Got One''. They were often compared to Blondie (band), Blondie and The Smiths; Morrissey becoming a fan of the group. The most prominent part of Echobelly's success formula was vocalist Sonya Madan, who was also the group's lyricist. Born in Delhi, India, before moving to England at the age of two, Madan had an unusual background for a pop celebrity, star. Kabul Dreams
Kabul Dreams is a rock band from Afghanistan, established in 2008 in Kabul. The band consists of Sulyman Qardash (lead singer and guitarist), Siddique Ahmed (bassist) and Jai Dhar (drummer). The band is managed by Alykhan Kaba. Kabul Dreams has paved the way for a modest but growing rock scene in Afghanistan, rebuilding itself after decades of war. The band’s motivation to perform came from their own love for music, but also from a public hunger for a new life after war – a life that included new music and art. District Unknown
District Unknown was a psychedelic metal band from Kabul, Afghanistan. Formed in 2009, it is thought to be the first heavy metal band from the region. After a number of changes, the group disbanded in 2019. History District Unknown was formed in 2009 by cousins Lemar and Qais and brothers Qasem and Pedram through filmmaker Travis Beard. Originally starting as a doom/thrash metal band, the quartet began experimenting with psychedelic music in order to carve out their own sound. Stoner Rock
Stoner rock, also known as stoner metal or stoner doom, is a rock music fusion genre that combines elements of doom metal with psychedelic rock and acid rock. The genre emerged during the early 1990s and was pioneered foremost by Kyuss and Sleep. Characteristics Stoner rock is typically slow-to-mid tempo and features a heavily distorted, groove-laden bass-heavy sound, melodic vocals, and "retro" production. Post-punk
Post-punk (originally called new musick) is a broad genre of punk music that emerged in the late 1970s as musicians departed from punk's traditional elements and raw simplicity, instead adopting a variety of avant-garde sensibilities and non-rock influences.
