Founded by Greg Anderson and Stephen O'Malley, Sunn O))) is an experimental drone metal band that formed in Seattle, Washington, in 1998 originally under the name "Mars". ''White1'' is the third album by Sunn O))), released in 2003. It was the most significant departure from their original style to date. Each track was experimental in its own way, with Julian Cope reciting poetry for half of "My Wall", Norwegian lyrics sung by Runhild Gammelsæter of Thorr's Hammer as an intro to a drum machine and stoner metal bass riff in "The Gates of Ballard", and the drone track "A Shaving of the Horn that Speared You". The lyrics of "The Gates of Ballard" come from "Håvard Hedde", a Norwegian folk song. Another metal version of "Håvard Hedde" was recorded in 1995 by the Norwegian band Storm. In ''Q'' magazine's August issue (named the loud issue), they named ''White1'' as the 18th loudest album of all time, just above AC/DC's ''Back in Black'' and below the Jimi Hendrix Experience's album ''Are You Experienced''. Attila Csihar (; born 29 March 1971), also sometimes known as Void, is a Hungarian extreme metal vocalist, best known for his vocal work in Norwegian black metal band Mayhem and American drone-doom project Sunn O))). Author Ian Christe describes his vocals as "operatic". Biography His music career began in 1985 with the Hungarian metal band Tormentor, which reached cult status in black metal circles with their first album, ''Anno Domini'' (1988). Tormentor performed 50-100 live shows between 1986–1990 and became one of the most infamous bands in Hungary. After Tormentor he started his dark electro industrial band Plasma Pool (1990–1994). ''Black One'' is the fifth album by Sunn O))). As the title implies, the album is very black metal-influenced; utilizing many guest musicians of the genre including Malefic and Wrest from Xasthur and Leviathan respectively. Allegedly Malefic, a sufferer of claustrophobia, was locked in a casket during his recorded performance to the vocals on the track "Báthory Erzsébet". 2,000 copies included a bonus disc titled ''Solstitium Fulminate'', containing a mix of live performances recorded at Roskilde Festival in 2005 and the immediately preceding European tour. "Orthodox Caveman", previously known as "Caveman Salad", is based on live material from the White (see '' Live White'') tour. Joe Preston (born 1969) is an American bass guitarist and a former band member of the rock bands Earth, Melvins, Men's Recovery Project, The Need and High on Fire. Preston has also played with Sunn O))), and has his long-running solo project called Thrones. In 2007, he joined Harvey Milk in the studio for the recording of ''Life... Roger "Buzz" Osborne (born March 25, 1964), also known as King Buzzo, is an American guitarist, vocalist and songwriter. He is a founding member of the rock band Melvins, as well as Fantômas and Venomous Concept. Biography Born in Morton, Washington, Osborne is of English, Italian and Jewish descent. He moved to Montesano, Washington at the age of 12. He first started listening to the music of Aerosmith and Ted Nugent, then became greatly interested in punk rock after a few years. In the early 1980s, Osborne founded the Melvins with Matt Lukin and Mike Dillard who all attended Montesano High School (Wheeler Building) where he graduated in 1982. Jessamine was an American post-rock band, that recorded three albums for Kranky records between 1994 and 1998, and a number of singles for other record labels. These singles were later collected by the band on a self-released compilation album in 1997 entitled ''Another Fictionalized History''. Their single "Cellophane" was a minor college radio hit in the band's native Seattle, getting frequent airplay on KCMU (now KEXP). The band's sound was influenced by the works of Krautrock bands such as Can and Neu!, and their first album also bore some sonic resemblance to the sounds of early 1990s bands from the UK shoegaze scene.
