The ''Western Australian Government Gazette'' is the government gazette of Western Australia. It has been published since 1836. Between 1878 and 1989 it was known as the ''Government Gazette of Western Australia''. Editions from approximately 1915 onwards are available in electronic format on the State Law Publisher's website in PDF format. Some archives and libraries in Western AustraliaBattye Library, State Records Office of Western Australia, and Reid Library at the University of Western Australiahave parts of the series as hard copies but in most cases only part of the range is openly available. A government gazette (also known as an official gazette, official journal, official newspaper, official monitor or official bulletin) is a periodical publication that has been authorised to publish public or legal notices. It is usually established by statute or official action, and publication of notices within it, whether by the government or a private party, is usually considered sufficient to comply with legal requirements for public notice. Gazettes are published either in print, electronically or both. Publication within privately owned periodicals In some jurisdictions, privately owned newspapers may also register with the public authorities in order to publish public and legal notices. Western Australia (commonly abbreviated as WA) is a state of Australia occupying the western percent of the land area of Australia excluding external territories. Battye Library
The J S Battye Library (more properly known as the J. S. Battye Library of West Australian History) is an arm of the State Library of Western Australia. It stores much of the state's historical records and original publications including books, newspapers, periodicals, maps, and ephemera, as well as oral history tapes, photographs and artworks, films and video, and non-government records which are kept in the library's Private Archives collection. The Library provides a range of services, including reference, copying, and genealogical services, as well as consultancy and reader education. Founder The Library is named after Dr. James Sykes Battye, the first State Librarian, who began the collection in the early 1900s. It was established in December 1956. State Records Office Of Western Australia
The State Records Office of Western Australia (SRO) is the Western Australian government authority with responsibility for identifying, managing, preserving and providing access to the state's archives. The SRO also delivers best-practice records management services to state and local government agencies. The State Records Office operates under its own legislation, the State Records Act 2000, which was formally proclaimed in the Government Gazette on 30 November 2001. The SRO is an independent government agency within Western Australia's Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries. Reid Library
The University of Western Australia (UWA) Library consists of five library sites both on and within walking distance of the campus. The library is an integral part of the UWA student experience and provides a wide range of services, facilities and resources to both students and staff and the community including teaching, learning and research support, student IT support, and individual and collaborative learning spaces. The University of Western Australia (UWA) is a public research university in the Australian state of Western Australia.
