"" (Whoever stands under the protection of the Most High) is a Christian hymn in German. The anonymous text, paraphrasing Psalm 91, appeared first in 1972 in a Protestant hymnal, with a 1537 melody from Michael Vehe's hymnal. It is contained in the Catholic hymnal ''Gotteslob''. History "" appeared first in 1972, then in the common Protestant hymnal ''Evangelisches Kirchengesangbuch'' (EKG). A paraphrase of Psalm 91, it is written in three stanzas. The associated melody came from the first Catholic hymnal that Michael Vehe published in 1537. Psalm 91
Psalm 91 is the 91st psalm of the Book of Psalms, beginning in English in the King James Version: "He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty." In Latin, it is known as 'Qui habitat". As a psalm of protection, it is commonly invoked in times of hardship. Though no author is mentioned in the Hebrew text of this psalm, Jewish tradition ascribes it to Moses, with David compiling it in his Book of Psalms. The Septuagint translation attributes it to David. In the slightly different numbering system used in the Greek Septuagint and Latin Vulgate translations of the Bible, this psalm is Psalm 90. Michael Vehe
Michael Vehe (c. 1480–1539) was a German monk and theologian. Life Vehe was born in Biberach (now part of Heilbronn, near Bad Wimpfen). He joined the Dominicans in Wimpfen and was sent to Heidelberg in 1506, where he taught in 1512 and received a doctorate in theology in 1513. In 1515 he was appointed regent of the Dominican house of studies at Heidelberg; later Cardinal Albert of Mainz chose him as theologian and put him in charge of the church of Halle, Saxony. He was summoned to Augsburg in 1530 to refute the Lutheran Confession of Faith and took a prominent part in a debate against the Lutherans in 1534 in Leipzig. He was called to the bishopric of Halberstadt on February 21, 1539. He died in Halle in April 1539. ''Gotteslob'' ("Praise of God") is the title of the hymnbook authorized by the Catholic dioceses in Germany, Austria, South Tyrol, Luxembourg and Liège, Belgium. First published in Advent 2013, it is the current official hymnal for German-speaking Catholics, succeeding the first common German hymnal, the 1975 edition of the same name. Each diocese published a book containing a common section and a regional section. The first editions amounted to around 4 million copies. Gotteslob (1975)
The 1975 edition of ''Gotteslob'' (''God's Praise'') was the first combined prayerbook and hymnbook authorised by the bishops of all German-speaking Roman Catholics in Germany and Austria. It contains texts and songs for liturgy, communal prayer and private prayer, divided into a section which is common for all, and an appendix for the local songs in a diocese. Forerunners for a common hymnal were the hymnal ''Cantate!'', published by Heinrich Bone in 1847 and used by multiple diocese of German-speaking countries, and ''Kirchenlied'', a 1938 hymnal that included songs by Protestant hymnwriters. Maria Luise Thurmair was a member of the commission preparing the edition, and also contributed several songs to the book. Gaël Liardon (18 December 1973 – 21 October 2018) was a Swiss classical keyboard player, composer and academic. Born in Lausanne, he studied harpsichord, organ and continuo playing with and , piano with , and improvisation with Rudolf Lutz. He has been organist of the church of Villamont, Lausanne, from 1995. In 2009, he obtained a diploma of teaching theory at the Geneva University of Music, with distinction. He taught music pedagogy at the Geneva Conservatory. In 1997, he created the Festival de Musique Improvisée de Lausanne and also participated in the creation of the research group on improvisation of the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis.
