Wayne Hogg
Wayne Hogg (born 24 September 1980) is a Scottish international indoor and lawn bowler. Bowls career In 2008 he won the gold medal in the triples at the 2008 World Outdoor Bowls Championship in Christchurch along with David Peacock and Willie Wood. He then won the 2008 Scottish National Bowls Championships singles title qualifying for the 2009 World Singles Champion of Champions event, where he won the silver medal losing to Brett Wilkie of Australia in the final. World Bowls Championship
The World Bowls Championship is the premier world bowls competition between national bowls organisations. The premier indoor event is the World Indoor Bowls Championships listed separately and is organised by the World Bowls Tour. World Outdoor Championships First held in Australia in 1966, the World Outdoor Bowls Championships for men and women are held every four years. From 2008 the men's and women's events were held together. Qualifying national bowls organisations (usually countries) are represented by a team of five players, who play once as a single and a four, then again as a pair and a triple. British Isles Bowls Championships
The British Isles Bowls Championships is a tournament held between the champions of their respective nations, England Scotland, Wales, combined Ireland and more recently Guernsey and Jersey. It was first held in 1960 although the triples event did not start until 1977. The women's events started in June 1972, with the triples starting in 1982. The first women's singles winner was Lilian Nicholas of Wales. The first men's singles winner was Kenneth Coulson of England and the legendary David Bryant (bowls), David Bryant MBE holds the record for the most singles titles with four. The tournament is held the year after each of the National champions have been crowned. Bowls, also known as lawn bowls or lawn bowling, is a sport in which the objective is to roll biased balls so that they stop close to a smaller ball called a "jack" or "kitty". David Peacock (bowls)
David Craig Peacock (born 30 January 1970) is a Scottish international lawn and indoor bowler. Bowls career Peacock won the 2002 Hong Kong International Bowls Classic singles title. He claimed the triples gold medal at the 2004 World Outdoor Bowls Championship with Jim McIntyre and Willie Wood. Four years later he repeated the success when winning the triples at the 2008 World Outdoor Bowls Championship with Wayne Hogg and Willie Wood. In 2011 he won the pairs bronze medal at the Atlantic Bowls Championships. The following year he won his third World Championship gold in the triples at the 2012 World Outdoor Bowls Championship with Graeme Archer and Darren Burnett, he also won a fours bronze medal. Willie Wood (bowler)
William Walker Wood MBE (born 26 April 1938 in Haddington, East Lothian) is a former Scottish professional bowls player, who has mainly competed in the outdoor or lawn form of the game. He is regarded as one of the leading bowlers of his generation and his list of achievements include appearing at eight Commonwealth Games and winning two gold medals and eight World Bowls Championship gold medals. Early life Wood took up bowls at the age of 12, perhaps unsurprisingly as his father, grandfather and mother all played the sport. With little else to occupy his time, Wood says he elected to bowl in his home village of Gifford, rather than brave the bus journey to the swimming baths at nearby North Berwick. Wood undertook his national service with the British Army, joining aged 18, serving in Germany with the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. The Scottish National Bowls Championships is one of the oldest bowls competitions in the world. In 1892 Mr James Brown of Sanquhar BC and Dr Clark of the Partick BC formed the Scottish Bowls Association and organised the first rink (fours) championship the following year at the Queen's Park Club, Glasgow (it was the first national championships and was known as the McEwan Cup). World Singles Champion Of Champions
The World Singles Champion of Champions is an event inaugurated in 2003 that is contested annually between bowlers who have won their respective national singles title. The event was first held in 2003 at the Moama Bowling Club in Moama, Australia. Traditionally the competition favours the Southern Hemisphere players due to the fact that the Northern Hemisphere players have to travel to the event and compete on faster greens. No male player has managed to win the title a second time and the only female to achieve two wins is Jo Edwards of New Zealand. Brett Wilkie
Brett Wilkie is an Australian international lawn bowler. Bowls career Wilkie came to prominence after winning the Australian national championship and qualifying for the 2009 World Singles Champion of Champions event, where he won the gold medal defeating Wayne Hogg of Scotland in the final. He was selected to play for Australia during the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi where he won a triples silver medal. Wilkie then won the gold medal in the fours with Aron Sherriff, Mark Casey and Wayne Ruediger during the 2012 World Outdoor Bowls Championship in Adelaide and a silver medal in the triples.
