Ward Hermans
Cornelius Eduardus Hermans (6 February 1897 – 23 November 1992) was a Belgium, Belgian Flemish Movement, Flemish nationalist politician and writer. Hermans saw service with the Belgian Army during the First World War before becoming involved in politics as a member of the nationalist ''Frontpartij''.Philip Rees, ''Biographical Dictionary of the Extreme Right Since 1890'', 1990, p. 179 As punishment for his activities in the Flemish movement he was sent to a penal military unit: the infamous ''woodchopping platoon of the Orne'' (Peloton Spécial Forestier) located in Orne, Normandy in July 1918. Turnhout () is a Belgium, Belgian Municipalities in Belgium, municipality and city located in the Flemish Region, Flemish Provinces of Belgium, province of Antwerp (province), Antwerp. Joris Van Severen
Joris Van Severen (19 July 1894 – 20 May 1940) was a Belgian politician and ideologue of the Flemish Movement as well as a Pan-Netherlander. A leading figure of pre-World War II Flemish nationalism, he co-founded the extreme-right group Verdinaso. Early years Van Severen was born in the Flemish town of Wakken as Georges Edmond Eduard Van Severen. His family was Flemish but, in keeping with a number of leading Flemings, spoke the French language and as such were given the derogatory nickname ''Fransquillon'' by Dutch speakers. Van Severen's father was a prominent lawyer who also served as mayor of Wakken. Van Severen was educated by Jesuits in the Sint-Barbaracollege, who taught in French, before studying law at the University of Ghent. The Order of Flemish Militants ( nl, Vlaamse Militanten Orde or VMO) – originally the Flemish Militants Organisation (''Vlaamse Militanten Organisatie'') – was a Flanders, Flemish nationalism, nationalist activist group in Belgium defending far-right interests by propaganda and political action. René Lagrou (15 April 1904 – 1 April 1969) was a Belgian politician and collaborator with Nazi Germany.
