Waratah Coal
Waratah Coal is coal mining company owned by mining magnate Clive Palmer. It was originally formed in 1862. It is now a subsidiary of Palmer’s Mineralogy. It holds explorations permits within the Laura, Bowen, Galilee and Surat Basins. Management Between 2006 and 2010 Peter Lynch was CEO and President of the company. Plans Waratah Coal is seeking approval for a new coal-fired power station in Central Queensland, near the town of Alpha. Clive Palmer
Clive Frederick Palmer (born 26 March 1954) is an Australian businessman and politician. He has iron ore, nickel, and coal holdings. Palmer owns many businesses such as Mineralogy, Waratah Coal, Queensland Nickel at Townsville, the Palmer Coolum Resort on the Sunshine Coast, Palmer Sea Reef Golf Course at Port Douglas, Palmer Colonial Golf Course at Robina, and the Palmer Gold Coast Golf Course, also at Robina. He owned Gold Coast United FC from 2008 to 2012. Mineralogy (mining Company)
Mineralogy is a mining company owned by Clive Palmer of Queensland, Australia. Mineralogy's mining projects are now producing and generating income. Mineralogy signed a deal with the Chinese infrastructure company CITIC Pacific to develop a small portion of a large iron ore deposit in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. The agreement involves the development of two magnetite mines and construction of port infrastructure at Cape Preston. According to Palmer the company owns more than of land in the region. Mineralogy was paid 415 million for the rights to mine the ore. According to Palmer the reserves contain 160 billion tonnes of iron ore. Bowen Basin
The Bowen Basin contains the largest coal reserves in Australia. This major coal-producing region contains one of the world's largest deposits of bituminous coal. The Basin contains much of the known Permian coal resources in Queensland including virtually all of the known mineable prime coking coal. It was named for the Bowen River, itself named after Queensland's first Governor, Sir George Bowen. The Bowen Basin covers an area of over 60,000 square kilometres in Central Queensland running from Collinsville to Theodore. There was a combined population of 41,973 people in the area in 2001. Surat Basin
The Surat Basin is a geological basin in eastern Australia. It is part of the Great Artesian Basin drainage basin of Australia. The Surat Basin extends across an area of 270,000 square kilometres and the southern third of the basin occupies a large part of northern New South Wales, the remainder is in Queensland. It comprises Jurassic through to Cretaceous aged sediments derived from Triassic and Permian arc rocks of the Hunter-Bowen orogeny. Peter Lynch (mining Engineer)
Peter Lynch (14 February 1964 – 26 January 2017) was an Australian mining engineer. Career Lynch was born in Caringbah, New South Wales, the second child of Dr Gilbert Lynch a general surgeon in the St George region of Sydney, and wife Judy. He attended local Catholic schools, then studied mining engineering at the University of New South Wales, graduating in 1988. After moving to Queensland to work on coal projects,he met his wife Laura, a geologist from Sydney. The couple had three children - Alicia, Sebastian, and George. Alpha is a rural town and a locality in the Barcaldine Region, Queensland, Australia. At the , the locality had a population of 559 people. Geography Alpha is in Central West Queensland. Coal is mined in every state of Australia. The largest black coal resources occur in Queensland and New South Wales. About 70% of coal mined in Australia is exported, mostly to eastern Asia, and of the balance most is used in electricity generation.
