Walter Hill (serial Killer)
Walter Hill (February 7, 1935 – May 2, 1997) was an American serial killer who killed five people between 1952 and 1977. He was convicted of capital murder, sentenced to death, and executed at Holman Correctional Facility in Alabama in 1997. Early life Hill claimed to be a native of Jamaica, but court records indicate that he was born in Midway, Alabama. He was born on February 7, 1935. Murders In 1952, 17 year old Hill, beat a man named Sam Atmore to death with a board in Adamsville, Alabama. He pleaded guilty to second degree murder and was sentenced to 10 years in prison. Hill was sent to Atmore State Prison Farm. Shortly before he was transferred, Hill escaped from jail, but was quickly recaptured. In 1954, Hill was one of 20 inmates who escaped from Atmore Prison Farm during a prison baseball game. Midway, Alabama
Midway is a town located in eastern Bullock County, Alabama, United States. At the 2020 census, the population was 421. Old Merritt School Margaret Elizabeth Merritt of Midway sold two acres for $5 to the State of Alabama in 1921 as a site for an elementary school for African-American children. Built in 1922 with matching Rosenwald funds, the Midway Colored Public School featured oak and pine construction and two classrooms divided by a partition. The building is one of the few surviving of the more than 5,000 rural black schools built with contributions for the Julius Rosenwald Fund. The building was enlarged twice then renovated in 1978. It is now used as a community center. It was added to the Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage on November 2, 1990 and the National Register of Historic Places on February 20, 1998. Jamaica Defence Force
The Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) is the combined military of Jamaica, consisting of an infantry Regiment and Reserve Corps, an Air Wing, a Coast Guard fleet and a supporting Engineering Unit. The JDF is based upon the British military model, with similar organisation, training, weapons and traditions. Once chosen, officer candidates are sent to one of several British or Canadian basic officer courses depending upon the arm of service. Enlisted soldiers are given basic training at JDF Training Depot Newcastle. As in the British model, NCOs are given several levels of professional training as they rise up the ranks. The following is a list of people executed by the U.S. state of Alabama since 1983. All of the 70 people (69 men and 1 woman) have been executed at the Holman Correctional Facility, near Atmore, Alabama. All executions since December 2002 have been by lethal injection. In 2021, the Alabama Department of Corrections announced it had constructed a facility at Holman to carry out executions by means of nitrogen hypoxia.
