Wait Until The Weekend Comes
Ireland was represented by Maria Christian, with the song "Wait Until the Weekend Comes", at the 1985 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place on 4 May in Gothenburg, Sweden. "Wait Until the Weekend Comes" was chosen as the Irish entry at the national final on 27 March. Before Eurovision National final The final was held at the studios of broadcaster RTÉ in Dublin, hosted by Gay Byrne. Eight songs took part, with the winner chosen by voting from 11 regional juries. One of the contenders was Marion Fossett, who was a member of Ireland's 1981 representatives Sheeba. At Eurovision On the night of the final Christian performed first in the running order, preceding Finland. At the close of voting "Wait Until the Weekend Comes" had picked up 91 points, placing Ireland 6th of the 19 entries. Maria Doyle-Cuche
Maria Doyle-Cuche (born 6 May 1965) is an Irish singer who represented Ireland in the Eurovision Song Contest 1985. In 2016, she auditioned for ''The Voice of Ireland'', and was selected by coach Una Foden in the audition round. In 2020, she took part of '' The Voice France'', in which she went to the semi-finals coached by Lara Fabian. Since the age of nine, Maria has been 95% legally blind. She is the author of an autobiographical book in French entitled "On ne voit bien qu’avec le cœur" (''One Can Only Truly See with the Heart'', 2018). Brendan Graham
Brendan Graham (born 1945) is an Irish songwriter and novelist. Among songs he has written are "Rock 'n' Roll Kids" (1994) and "The Voice" (1996), both of which won the Eurovision Song Contest for Ireland in their respective years, and "You Raise Me Up" (2002), which was an international hit as covered by various artists, including Josh Groban. 1985 Eurovision Song Contest
The Eurovision Song Contest 1985 was the 30th edition of the annual Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Gothenburg, Sweden, following the country's victory at the with the song "Diggi-Loo Diggi-Ley" by Herreys. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster Sveriges Television (SVT), the contest was held at the Scandinavium on the 4th of May 1985 and was hosted by previous Swedish contestant Lill Lindfors. Nineteen countries took part in the contest, with the and deciding not to participate. The winner was with the song "La det swinge" by Bobbysocks!. Gabriel Mary "Gay" Byrne (5 August 1934 – 4 November 2019) was an Irish presenter and host of radio and television. Sheeba were an all-girl pop trio popular in Ireland in the late 1970s and early 1980s. They were Maxi, Marion Fossett and Frances Campbell. They are best known for representing the host nation, Ireland, in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1981 with "Horoscopes". Career In 1978, the group took part in the Irish National Song Contest, to select Ireland's entry for that year's Eurovision Song Contest. But they failed to win with their song, "It's Amazing What Love Can Do".
