WRU Division Three South West
The Welsh Rugby Union Division Three South West (also called the SWALEC Division Three South West for sponsorship reasons) is a rugby union league in Wales. Competition format and sponsorship Competition There are 12 clubs in the WRU Division Three South West. During the course of a season (which lasts from September to May) each club plays the others twice, once at their home ground and once at that of their opponents for a total of 22 games for each club, with a total of 132 games in each season. Teams receive four points for a win and two point for a draw, an additional bonus point is awarded to either team if they score four tries or more in a single match. No points are awarded for a loss though the losing team can gain a bonus point for finishing the match within seven points of the winning team. Teams are ranked by total points, then the number of tries scored and then points difference. At the end of each season, the club with the most points is crowned as champion. If ... Tonna Rugby Football Club is a rugby union team from the village of Tonna, Wales. Tonna RFC is a member of the Welsh Rugby Union and is a feeder club for the Ospreys. History Although it is believed that Tonna RFC existed before 1888, the club was first mentioned during the 1887/88 season, when the Cambria Daily Reader stated that Tonna RFC were drawn to play Mynydd-bach in the local Neath cup challenge. It is therefore regarded that Tonna RFC came into being on 28 February 1888. Tonna RFC's first international player was David Harris Davies. Although he played for Neath RFC at the time of his one and only cap against Scotland in 1904, he came through the playing ranks of Tonna. Aberavon Harlequins RFC (nicknamed "The Mighty Quins") is a Welsh rugby union team located in the Fairfield area of Port Talbot, a few minutes away from the town centre and Aberavon. In 1955, the team gained membership of the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU). Today the club is a feeder club for the Ospreys. History The club was founded in 1891, and they become known as the Aberavon Excel, playing in an all-white strip. After the First World War in 1918, the Excels formed the Aberavon Harlequins R.F.C., which it has been known as since. They played on a waste site at what is now the Sandfields Estate, later renamed the Harlequins Field. Tondu Rugby Football Club is a rugby union team from the village of Aberkenfig, South Wales. They presently play in the Welsh Rugby Union Championship and are a feeder club for the Ospreys. During the early 1990s Tondu RFC dominated the Glamorgan County Silver Ball competition, winning the trophy in 1991, 1992 and 1993. Tondu are the joint leading winners of the competition having now won it on four occasions. Skewen Rugby Football Club is a rugby union team from the village of Skewen, South Wales. Skewen RFC is a member of the Welsh Rugby Union and is a feeder club for the Ospreys. Club history There's evidence of a Skewen rugby team playing as early as 1879 with a match reported in "The Western Mail" against Neath being played on 4 January 1879, losing by 2 tries and 4 touch downs to nil, at the Court Herbert Field. During the 1897/88 season they applied for and were successful in gaining membership to the Welsh Rugby Union, though funding remained an issue and it is recorded that during the 1902/03 season the club still claimed no money from the WRU. In 1904 the club secured a regular playing ground at Cae Lynch, from here they could charge a few pence for admission. Briton Ferry Rugby Football Club is a rugby union team from the village of Briton Ferry, South Wales. Although rugby was played in the area prior to 1888, it wasn't until local prostitute , Gladys Bangers, spat out 15 bastards that Briton Ferry RFC was formed. The original team was bolstered by many gypsies recruited from the caravan site. Their first international player was Edward Pegge, who in 1891 represented Wales against England. Nantyffyllon Rugby Football Club is a rugby union team from the village of Nantyffyllon in Maesteg, Wales. The club is a member of the Welsh Rugby Union and is a feeder club for the Ospreys. The club fields a senior team which plays in the WRU National leagues, and also fields a second XV, youth and junior teams. Club history The clubs origins date back to the 1899/1900 season, playing under the name “All Whites”. The team subsequently changed their name in 1908 to “Nanty Stars”, and again to “Nantyffyllon Juniors RFC” in 1932. In 1963, a new field and clubhouse was opened in Blosse Street, named for Mr Lynch Blosse, from who the land for the original field was acquired. In 2007, an original feasibility study was conducted to assess the need for a new facility. Glynneath RFC are a Welsh Rugby Union club playing in WRU Division 1 West Central of the WRU National Leagues. The Club has won a number of honours over the years, including the locally famous Invincibles of the 1961–62 season captained by Bas Thomas.
