WHPS-CD, virtual and UHF digital channel 15, is a low-powered Class A independent television station serving Detroit, Michigan, United States that is licensed to Highland Park. The station is owned by HME Equity Fund II. The station broadcasts from its studios at the corner of Victor and Brush Streets (near the intersection of Woodward Avenue and the Davison Freeway) in Highland Park, with its transmitter located near Burt Road and Capitol Avenue in the Weatherby section of Detroit, shared with radio stations WMUZ-FM and WCHB. WHPS-CD is available nationwide through online streaming and on Roku and Xfinity channel 91 in Highland Park, Hamtramck, and most of Detroit (except for the southern portion of the Detroit neighborhood of Boynton). The New Dance Show
''The New Dance Show'' is a television series in Detroit, Michigan, which ran on WGPR-TV 62 (now a CBS affiliate known as WWJ-TV) and W68CH 68 (now WHPS-CD 15). Hosted by R.J. Watkins, ''The New Dance Show'' was a local version of ''Soul Train'' and featured regular dancers, including a man who dressed like a Gypsy and who wore a cape, and a woman who dressed as a boxer. The show featured music from several influential Detroit techno artists. ''The New Dance Show'' was developed as a spin-off of ''The Scene'', which ran from October 1975 to December 1987. WWJ-TV (channel 62) is a television station in Detroit, Michigan, United States, owned and operated by the CBS television network. Under common ownership with CW affiliate WKBD-TV under the network's CBS News and Stations group, both stations share studios on Eleven Mile Road in the Detroit suburb of Southfield, while WWJ-TV's transmitter is located in Oak Park. Founded as WGPR-TV in 1975 by Dr. William V. Banks and the International Free and Accepted Modern Masons as an extension of WGPR (), channel 62 in Detroit holds the distinction of being the first Black-owned television station in the continental United States. WUDT-LD (channel 23) is a low-power television station in Detroit, Michigan, United States, owned and operated by the Daystar Television Network. The station's transmitter is located at 8 Mile and Meyers Road in suburban Oak Park. History The station took to the air on January 4, 1989, as low-power W05BN on channel 5. It then became WBXD-LP on September 1, 1995, reflecting its affiliation with, and ownership by, The Box, which was acquired by Viacom in 1999 and merged into its MTV2 in 2001. The sale to Viacom put WBXD under the same ownership as UPN station WKBD (channel 50) and, after Viacom's merger with CBS, WWJ-TV (channel 62). LocusPoint Networks LLC was an owner of television stations in the United States. The company is 99% owned by The Blackstone Group. After selling off most of their in 2017 and 2018 in the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) spectrum auction and to other broadcasters, they owned one remaining station, WLEP-LD in Erie, Pennsylvania, whose license they turned in to the FCC effective February 12, 2019. One of the company's acquisitions, WMGM-TV, was rumored to have been purchased only to be sold in a spectrum auction in 2015. When the FCC auction finally occurred LocusPoint failed to successfully win a bid to sell the station's spectrum to the FCC. On June 26, 2017, LocusPoint Networks agreed to sell WMGM-TV to Univision Communications, through its Univision Local Media subsidiary, for $6 million. The Daystar Television Network (commonly referred to as Daystar Television, often shortened to Daystar) is an American evangelical Christian-based religious television network owned by the Word of God Fellowship, founded by Marcus Lamb in 1993. WDWO-CD (channel 18) is a low-power, Class A television station in Detroit, Michigan, United States, affiliated with the Spanish-language network Visión Latina. In broadcasting, sister stations or sister channels are radio or television stations operated by the same company, either by direct ownership or through a management agreement.
