''Wùlu, the Malian Scarface'' is a 2016 Malian crime drama film directed by Marseille-born French-Malian director Daouda Coulibaly and co-produced by Éric Névé and Oumar Sy. The film stars Ibrahim Koma and Inna Modja with Quim Gutiérrez, Olivier Rabourdin, and Ndiaye Ismaël in supporting roles. The film is about Ladji, a 20-year-old van driver in Mali who becomes a West African drug lord during the 2012 Mali War. He started committing crimes so that his older sister could quit working as a prostitute. The film received critics acclaim and screened worldwide. The film premiered at the 2016 Angouleme Film Festival. The next year, lead actor Ibrahim Koma won the Best Actor Award at FESPACO 2017. Originally the shooting was planned in Mali, but later relocated to Senegal for security reasons after the Bamako attack occurred in November 2015. Then the film was shot in Thiès, Senegal. Ibrahim Koma
Ibrahim Koma (born 5 November 1987) is a French actor. He began his career as a child actor in the film ''We Need a Holiday'' (2002) and the soap opera ''Sous le soleil'' (2002–2008). He has since starred in the films ''Asphalt Playground'' (2012), '' Wùlu'' (2016), and '' As Far as I Can Walk'' (2021). He played Passepartout in the series ''Around the World in 80 Days'' (2021). Early life Koma was born in the 20th arrondissement of Paris in the city's east to Soninke parents from Mali and grew up in the Baconnets quarter of Antony, Hauts-de-Seine, south of Paris. He and his siblings were brought up by their widowed mother. His older brother Diouc Koma is also an actor. Koma trained at the Cours Viriot, Actor's Studio, and Laboratoire de l'Acteur. Habib Dembélé (born 19 April 1962) is a Malian actor, director, and author, and a candidate for the Malian Presidential elections of 2002 and 2018. Early life and education Dembélé attended to Malian Institut National des Arts de Bamako (INA) after a school diploma : Etudes Fondamentales (DEF). Career Dembélé is an actor, director, and author. He performs on both stage and screen. He founded the Gouakoulou Company, the Guimba National Company and the Mandenka International Theatre. He received Mali's Best Actor Award in 1984. "Modja" means "bad, not good" in Fulfulde.The actual word in the Fula language (Fulfulde) is ''moƴƴa'', being a negative form from the root ''moƴƴ-'' (good). "Modja" is a Francified transcription.
