Wythall
Wythall is a village and civil parish in the Bromsgrove District, in the north-east corner of the county of Worcestershire, England. Wythall parish borders Solihull and Birmingham, and had a population of 11,377 in the UK census of 2001. The civil parish was created in 1911 when the remainder of the previous King's Norton civil parish was absorbed into the then County Borough of Birmingham. Wythall village is around 7 miles south of Birmingham City Centre (a 20-minute train journey from Wythall railway station) along Alcester Road. There are a number of 18th century buildings on this road including the Wythall Institute. The civil parish of Wythall has always included Drake's Cross, Hollywood and Headley Heath and today also includes Major's Green and the formerly undeveloped Worcestershire part of Walker's Heath. St Mary's Church, Wythall
The Former Church of St Mary, Wythall is a Grade II listed redundant parish church in the Church of England in Wythall, Worcestershire. History The church was built in 1862 by Frederick Preedy. The landmark tower was added in 1908 by William Bidlake, the gift of the Misses Mynors in memory of their parents. The font was installed in the 1960s from Immanuel Church, Birmingham when this church was demolished. The building closed for worship in 1986, and the building is now owned by a firm of electrical contractors. From 1987 to 2014 the congregation met in local school halls, most recently Coppice Primary School. At Easter 2014 the new St Mary's Church was opened on Shawhurst Lane in Hollywood, on the Coppice School site. Hollywood, Worcestershire
Hollywood is a large village predominantly located in the Bromsgrove district of Worcestershire, England, almost contiguous with and to the south of the city of Birmingham. Hollywood was formerly part of Kings Norton, but when Birmingham expanded in 1911, Hollywood remained in Worcestershire. The village now lies across the wards of Hollywood, most of Drakes Cross, the Trueman's Heath polling district area of Trueman's Heath parish ward and, following a 1966 border change, the southern portion of the Birmingham Highter's Heath ward, with all but the latter being located within the civil parish of Wythall. The Transport Museum, Wythall
The Transport Museum, Wythall is a transport museum just outside Birmingham, at Chapel Lane, Wythall, Worcestershire, England. The museum was originally run by the charity The Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Trust (BaMMOT). BaMMOT was formed in 1977 and the museum site was acquired in February 1978. King's Norton And Northfield Urban District
King's Norton and Northfield Urban District was a local government administrative district in north Worcestershire, England, from 1898 until 1911. Much of its area was afterwards absorbed into the neighbouring Borough of Birmingham, under the ''Greater Birmingham Scheme'', and now constitutes most of the city's southern and southwestern suburban environs. Creation The District was originally created in 1894 as the King's Norton Rural District, under the ''Local Government Act 1894'', and succeeded the former King's Norton Rural Sanitary District upon which its area was largely based. William Bidlake
William Henry Bidlake MA, FRIBA (12 May 1861 – 6 April 1938) was a British architect, a leading figure of the Arts and Crafts movement in Birmingham and Director of the School of Architecture at Birmingham School of Art from 1919 until 1924. Several of Bidlake's houses in the Birmingham area were featured in Hermann Muthesius's book (The English House), which was to prove influential on the early Modern Movement in Germany. Life and career Bidlake was born in Wolverhampton, the son of local architect George Bidlake (1830–1892) from whom he received his earliest architectural training. He attended Tettenhall College and Christ's College, Cambridge. In 1882 he moved to London where he studied at the Royal Academy Schools and worked for Gothic Revival architects Bodley and Garner. Walker's Heath
Walker's Heath is a small area spanning the southern border of the city of Birmingham, England (northeastern segment of the Kings Norton South ward) and the Bromsgrove District of Worcestershire (northern-most segment of the Wythall West ward). It is located to the immediate south-east of the Birmingham suburb of Kings Norton. A Local Government Boundary Commission for England review of 1992 identified the adult population of the Worcestershire part of Walker's Heath as just 400; however, despite a recommendation the area be transferred to the city of Birmingham, such a change did not come to effect. As a result, Walker's Heath continues to share a commonality with Rubery, a larger suburb located a few miles west, in being a contiguous built-up area spanning the Birmingham-Worcestershire border. Major's Green
Major's Green is a village in the Wythall parish of Bromsgrove district and is the northeastern-most settlement in the county of Worcestershire, England. The village is served by Whitlocks End railway station as well as bus service A4 to Solihull, and is the location of The Drawbridge Public House named after the adjacent drawbridge on the Stratford-upon-Avon Canal. The village is closely associated with the surrounding West Midlands county (3 of the 4 roads from the village lead into the Metropolitan Borough of Solihull) in respect of transport and amenities, and as such can also be considered an outer suburb of Shirley. Bromsgrove is a local government district in Worcestershire, England. Its council is based in the town of Bromsgrove. It borders the built up area of Birmingham to the north. Other places in the district include Alvechurch, Aston Fields, Belbroughton, Catshill, Clent, Hagley, Rubery, Stoke Prior and Wythall. The current district was formed on 1 April 1974 by the merger of Bromsgrove urban district and Bromsgrove rural district. Woodrush High School
Woodrush High School is a mixed secondary school and sixth form located in the parish of Wythall in the English county of Worcestershire. Woodrush High School offers GCSEs, BTECs and Cambridge Nationals as programmes of study for pupils, while students in the sixth form have the option to study from a range of A-levels and further BTECs. As of 2018, the school also started enrolling higher ability students onto the Mandarin Excellence programme. As of the most recent Ofsted inspection published in January 2019, the school has 1002 enrolled pupils, 96 of whom are in the Sixth Form.
