Wyoming Highway 78
Wyoming Highway 78 (WYO 78) is a long Wyoming state highway located in Carbon County in the city of Rawlins. The highway runs along a portion of South Higley Boulevard. Route description Wyoming Highway 78, albeit short in length, serves as a connection between Highway 71, Interstate 80, and U.S. Route 30 at exit 214, and the Wyoming State Penitentiary to the south. Highway 78 begins at the Wyoming State Penitentiary south of Rawlins, and heads north along South Higley Boulevard. Highway 78 intersects I-80 / US 30 at exit 214, and just later terminates at Highway 71. Mileposts increase from north to south along Highway 78. Wyoming State Penitentiary
The Wyoming State Penitentiary is a historic and current prison in Rawlins, Carbon County, Wyoming, which has operated from 1901. It moved within Rawlins to a new location in 1981. In 2018, it is a Wyoming Department of Corrections state maximum-security prison for men. Wyoming State Penitentiary is also the location of Wyoming's death row for men and execution chamber, which is located in the prison's parole board meeting room. No death sentences have been carried out in Wyoming since the 1992 execution of convicted murderer Mark Hopkinson, and, in 2018, there were no inmates on death row. Wyoming Highway 71 (WYO 71) is a north–south Wyoming state highway known as Sage Creek Road in Carbon County that travels from near the Teton Reservoir north into the southern part of Rawlins. Interstate 80 In Wyoming
Interstate 80 (I-80) is a part of the Interstate Highway System that runs from San Francisco, California, to Teaneck, New Jersey. In Wyoming, the Interstate Highway runs from the Utah state line near Evanston east to the Nebraska state line in Pine Bluffs. I-80 connects Cheyenne, Wyoming's capital and largest city, with several smaller cities along the southern tier of Wyoming, including Evanston, Green River, Rock Springs, Rawlins, and Laramie.
