The World Trade Centers Association (WTCA) was founded in 1970 by Port Authority executive Guy F. Tozzoli. WTCA is a not-for-profit, non-political association dedicated to the establishment and operation of World Trade Centers (WTCs) as instruments for international trade expansion. The Four Seasons Hotel and Private Residences New Orleans is a historic 33-story, -tall skyscraper designed by noted architect Edward Durell Stone, located at 2 Canal Street in the Central Business District of New Orleans. It was formerly known as the "ITM Building", i.e., the International Trade Mart, it was also known as the World Trade Center New Orleans, and housed numerous foreign consulates and the headquarters for the Port of New Orleans. The top floor hosted a cocktail lounge called "Top of the Mart" from the 1970s through 2001. The bar slowly rotated once per hour. Canal Street (french: rue du canal) is a major thoroughfare in the city of New Orleans. Forming the upriver boundary of the city's oldest neighborhood, the French Quarter or ''Vieux Carré'', it served historically as the dividing line between the colonial-era (18th-century) city and the newer American Sector, today's Central Business District. Up until the early 1800s, it was the Creoles who lived in the Vieux Carré. After the Louisiana Purchase (1803), a large influx of other cultures began to find their way into the city via the Mississippi River. A number of Americans from Kentucky and the Midwest moved into the city and settled uptown. Along the division between these two cultures, a canal was planned. The canal was never built but the street which took its place received the name. Furthermore, the median of the street became known as the neutral ground, acknowledging the cultural divide. One Canal Place
One Canal Place, located at 365 Canal Street in the Central Business District of New Orleans, Louisiana, is a 32-story, -tall skyscraper. The building contains The Shops at Canal Place and is attached to the Westin New Orleans Canal Place hotel, with which it shares a parking garage. During the colonial era before levees were constructed, the land now occupied by the Canal Place complex was commonly covered by the waters of the Mississippi River. In the 1720s, a windmill was constructed near what is now Canal Street and North Peters Street. By the 20th century, the land was occupied by the American Sugar Refinery facilities. The International Trade Mart was a New Orleans-based organization promoting international trade and the Port of New Orleans, Louisiana, United States. The organization was founded in 1946, and merged with International House in 1968, when it was renamed to World Trade Center New Orleans.
