World Heads-Up Poker Championship
The World Heads-Up Poker Championship (WHUPC) was an annual elimination-format poker tournament of heads-up no limit Texas hold'em matches. The tournament was co-created by Late Night Poker's Nic Szeremeta, PokerInEurope's Jon Shoreman, and gaming journalist Rich Geller. The event has run from 2001 to 2010 and was held in Europe. Entry was open to all. Its success led to America's creation of the National Heads-Up Poker Championship. From 2001 to 2003, the event was held at the Concord Card Casino, Vienna, Austria. From 2004 to 2008, the event was held at the Grand Casino, Barcelona, Spain. In 2009 and 2010, the event was held at the Victoria Casino, London, England. Poker Tournament
A poker tournament is a tournament where players compete by playing poker. It can feature as few as two players playing on a single table (called a "heads up poker, heads-up" tournament), and as many as tens of thousands of players playing on thousands of tables. The winner of the tournament is usually the person who wins every poker chip in the game and the others are awarded places based on the time of their elimination. To facilitate this, in most tournaments, blind (poker), blinds rise over the duration of the tournament. Unlike in a Cash game, ring game (or cash game), a player's chips in a tournament cannot be cashed out for money and serve only to determine the player's placing. Kirill Gerasimov (russian: Кирилл Герасимов, born June 5, 1971 in Moscow, Soviet Union) is a Russian professional poker player. Personal life Gerasimov worked as an insurance salesman in Moscow, and started entering poker tournaments throughout Europe in 2001. Gerasimov was mentored in poker by professional Marcel Lüske. Michael D. "Mickey" Wernick (2 July 1944 – 18 April 2023) was an English retired bookmaker and professional poker player from Birmingham. Whilst growing up, Wernick was a keen amateur boxer and won the Midlands Area Amateur title. He has also met Sugar Ray Robinson and Muhammad Ali. Wernick formed a poker club in 1970 with his father Solly. He was a mainstay of the British poker scene, who eventually began traveling to the World Series of Poker. Ram "Crazy Horse" Vaswani (born 1 September 1970 from Finchley, Greater London) is an former professional poker and snooker player and the youngest member of The Hendon Mob, a group of professional poker players. Marcel Lüske (Amsterdam, Netherlands 23 March 1953) is a Dutch professional poker player. He finished 10th in the 2004 WSOP Main Event. Lüske is a mentor to and encourages the development of younger poker players. Early life Lüske's father was a butcher and a boxer, and he named Marcel after his favorite French pugilist, Marcel Cerdan.
