Guyana ( or ), officially the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, is a country on the northern mainland of South America. Guyana is an indigenous word which means "Land of Many Waters". The capital city is Georgetown. Guyana is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the north, Brazil to the south and southwest, Venezuela to the west, and Suriname to the east. With , Guyana is the third-smallest sovereign state by area in mainland South America after Uruguay and Suriname, and is the second-least populous sovereign state in South America after Suriname; it is also one of the least densely populated countries on Earth. Eddie Rogers
Edward Lowell Rogers (April 14, 1876 – October 17, 1971) was an American football player and coach. He was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1968. Rogers was also elected to the American Indian Athletic Hall of Fame in 1973. Early life Rogers was born in the forests of Minnesota to a pioneer lumberman, and Chippewa Indian mother. Career Football Rogers attended school at both Carlisle Indian Industrial School, Carlisle Institute and the University of Minnesota. Rogers career spanned seven seasons, four as a member of the Redmen teams, which lifted Carlisle to national prominence, and three campaigns at Minnesota. After the close of Carlisle's 1898 season, Rogers and Frank Cayou played for Dickinson Red Devils, Dickinson College, where they were enrolled in law school, in their Thanksgiving Day loss versus Penn State Nittany Lions, Penn State. Eddie Hooper
Eddie Hooper was a singer, composer and musician from Fyrish, Guyana. In Guyana, he is best known for his early patriotic calypso songs, which remain classics to this day. Internationally, Hooper's later music has captured the most attention. This later music defies easy categorization; it has been defined variously as disco, soca, reggae and samba-jazz. He referred to this music as ' loopie'. Hooper's most desired records are hard to come by and rarely sell for less than $100 USD. David Dabydeen
David Dabydeen (born 9 December 1955) is a Guyanese-born broadcaster, novelist, poet and academic. He was formerly Guyana's Ambassador to UNESCO (United Nations Education, Science and Culture Organisation) from 1997 to 2010 and the youngest Member of the UNESCO Executive Board (1993–1997), elected by the General Council of all Member States of UNESCO. He was appointed Guyana's Ambassador Plenipotentiary and Extraordinaire to China, from 2010 to 2015. He is one of the longest serving diplomats in the history of Guyana, most of his work done in a voluntary unpaid capacity. Daphne (; ; el, Δάφνη, , ), a minor figure in Greek mythology, is a naiad, a variety of female nymph associated with fountains, wells, springs, streams, brooks and other bodies of freshwater. Cyril Clairmonte Depeiaza (10 October 1928 – 10 November 1995) was a West Indian cricketer. Depeiaza was born in Mount Standfast, Saint James Parish, Barbados. A wicketkeeper, he played in the Barbados Cricket League. He played first-class cricket for Barbados from 1951–52 to 1956–57, and toured New Zealand with the West Indian team in 1955–56. He played the last three Tests against Australia in 1954–55, and the first two against New Zealand in 1955–56. In the first Test of the New Zealand tour he did not keep wicket – Alfie Binns was preferred – and he bowled for the only time in his first-class career. In a brief international Test career, he is best known for a world Test record 7th wicket partnership with Denis Atkinson of 347 in which he made his only first-class hundred of 122. Chuck Girard
Chuck Girard (born on August 27, 1943) is a pioneer of Contemporary Christian music. He moved to Santa Rosa, California in his young teens and was a member of the Castells and later the surf-rock band The Hondells. In 1970 he was a founding member of Love Song, the first Christian rock band to become popular in the United States. In 1975, Girard became a solo artist after leaving Love Song. He wrote and performed the songs "Sometimes Alleluia" and "Rock 'N' Roll Preacher"; both were featured on his debut album ''Chuck Girard.'' It also featured the band Ambrosia prominently throughout. Girard in turn was featured on Ambrosia's albums ''Ambrosia'' and ''Somewhere I've Never Travelled'', though the albums' credits do not indicate which tracks he contributed to or in what capacity.
