Worden Park
Worden Park is a large area of parkland situated on the outskirts of Leyland, a town in the borough of South Ribble, Lancashire, England. It is less than a quarter of a mile from the town centre. History Farington family The Farington family purchased the house and surrounding lands of Shaw Hall after their original family seat - Old Worden Hall in Buckshaw, Euxton - was judged too small for the family's wealth and social status. With surrounding farmland, the Faringtons formed the park with Shaw Hall, now renamed Worden Hall, at its centre. The area outside the house was blossoming gardens. In 1941, there was a fire in the house, and most of the hall was severely damaged. The house remained standing until the local council purchased the Hall from the family after the war. The most damaged part of the hall was torn down; however what is left of the house and outbuildings can still be seen today. There is an ice house which visitors can view, a maze and a miniature railway th ...

It is the second-largest freshwater lake in the state of Rhode Island, behind Scituate Reservoir, and the largest natural freshwater lake in the state. History At the start of King Philip's War in June of 1675 Roger Williams requested a meeting on behalf of the Massachusetts authorities, with the Narragansett tribal leaders at Richard Smith's Castle. Due to Queen Quaiapen's fears, they agreed instead to hold a meeting at Worden Pond (referred to as the "great pond" 10 miles from Smith's Castle) with Queen Quaiapen, Ninigret, Quinnapin, and Quaunochu where the Narragansetts agreed not to ally with the Wampanoag King Philip and to deliver Philip to the English if he sought refuge with the Narragansetts. Worden Field is a large grass field located on the campus of the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. First mentioned in 1890, the field served as the home stadium for the academy's Midshipmen football team from that year through 1923, replaced by Thompson Stadium in 1924. Since the early 1900s, the field has hosted all of the academy's various yearly parades and many of its drills. It has progressively grown smaller, due to the addition of buildings and roads within the academy. The field is bordered on all four sides by small academy roads. On two of its sides, it is surrounded by officers' quarters and is bounded by a parking lot and the Severn River on its other two borders. It has rows of bleachers located along its south side and has long contained a small gazebo on its east side.
