Worden, Oregon
Worden is an unincorporated community in Klamath County, Oregon, United States. It is about south of Klamath Falls and north of the Oregon–California border on U.S. Route 97. The townsite of Worden was purchased and laid out by William S. Worden, a member of a family of early Klamath County settlers. William Worden was a right-of-way agent for the Southern Pacific Railroad (SP) during the time SP predecessor Oregon Eastern Railway was building a railroad into Klamath Falls. He was later elected Klamath County judge. The Works Progress Administration (WPA; renamed in 1939 as the Work Projects Administration) was an American New Deal agency that employed millions of jobseekers (mostly men who were not formally educated) to carry out public works projects, including the construction of public buildings and roads. The Oregon Eastern Railway was a predecessor of the Southern Pacific Company that acquired or built most of the Natron Cutoff (a.k.a. Cascade Line) in northern California and southern Oregon, United States.
